My Winter Skincare Tips: How To Restore And Moisturize Dry Skin
With the change of seasons, not only the wardrobe and mood changes, but also the condition of the skin. Winter in Paris is relatively mild, but still it is much colder than in Spain. Central heating in the apartment makes skin and hair dry and lifeless. As a result, the skin begins to peel off, redden and gives a feeling of discomfort – all these are signs of critical dehydration. In addition to external factors, an internal restructuring of the body occurs, associated with seasonal hormonal fluctuations, which affects the metabolism in the skin. Also if you live in between two countries (like I do between France and Spain), the skin has additional stress from constant climate changes.
In winter the skin needs a milder cleansing and care, as well as additional cosmetics that will help restore and maintain a natural balance. What should winter care be like? The basic stages of daily care are the same: cleansing, toning, day / night cream. I love the sets from E.S.K.skincare, where you get a personalised kit of the cosmetics that you need throughout the day.
To cleanse any type of skin in the winter, it is recommended to use only “mild” products without alcohol. I love soft and tender texture of E.S.K. cleanser, which doesn’t leave the skin dry after washing.
You can also enrich your care program with additional means: moisturizing serum and creams containing Zinc.
How should care change if you fly on vacation to warm countries in winter?
Flights, climate change – this is stress for the body and for the skin in particular. This means that there are much more reasons for dehydration. Additional products, such as moisturizing serums and oils, will help to avoid troubles and provide a fresh, healthy appearance to your skin.
What does a simple and effective winter home care system look like?
Ideally, the care ritual should consist of a minimum of three products. Firstly, it means the cleaning, not damaging the protective barrier (preferably without alcohol and sulfates). Secondly, a moisturizer with film-forming substances, natural oils and antioxidants. Thirdly, an overnight restorative. Also in winter, it is necessary to apply additional care. Moisturizing masks are recommended to be done at least 2-3 times a week, because now the skin is losing a lot of water.
How else to help the skin in the cold?
I drink at least 1.5 liters of water per day. Green and herbal teas can be excellent sources of moisture and heat, as well as skin antioxidants. The draining effect of heating can be reduced with a humidifier and regular ventilation. I include in my diet seasonal fruits, vegetables, soups and products containing omega-3 fatty acids (fish). Any sport has a positive effect on the skin condition in winter. Contrast showers are also useful, only the temperature of the water should not be extreme, but comfortable.
