Necessary Accessories for this Winter

Spread the love

Accessories can take an outfit from dull to interesting. Whether it’s the more aesthetically focused earrings, necklaces, and perfume, or the more practical bags, belts, and watches, accessories can elevate your winter look in more ways than one.

Going into winter, accessories become extra important: they can keep you looking glamourous while keeping you warm and ready for the day. But which of our favourite year-round accessories really come into their own in winter?

Beanies

What says winter more than woolly hats? This accessory has become an autumn and winter statement over the years, and it shows no signs of going away.

Not only can it make you look chic, but it will also keep you as warm as you need on those cold winter days and nights. Most heat escapes through your head, so a woolly hat can often do more for your temperature than other accessories, like gloves and coats.

It’s a good idea to get a few different beanies. If you look at your wardrobe, try to pick out three colours that often reoccur in your outfits. From there, either get some beanies in those colours or consider which different colours will bring out the best in your reoccurring colours.

For example, if you notice you wear many beige tones – camel, light brown etc. – try adding a red beanie to your wardrobe. It adds some brightness to your winter outfits and has that autumnal feeling.

Watches

Many have argued that the time of the watch is over (no pun intended). Most people have phones now, and they are a much more convenient way of telling the time.

In the summer, we typically use accessories to present ourselves in keeping with the season’s themes: fun, happiness, and carefree living. But in winter, our concerns become more isolated: we turn to comfort, cosiness, and our own intellect. All you have to do is look at the recent boom of the dark academia aesthetic to see the interest in winter fashion.

So, while watches aren’t technically necessary anymore, they do fit into the season’s style in winter. They can make you look smart, productive, and like you’ve got places to be.

You can get watches with dark straps to fit your large winter coat or beautiful jewelled watches to wear to a Christmas cocktail party. Watches don’t have to break the bank. You can find plenty of luxury watches under $5,000 that are just as beautiful.

Try wearing a watch this winter season, and see if people react differently to you.

Scarves

Scarves are another classic winter accessory. They are great for adding a splash of colour to your look, as well as adding some texture.

The biggest benefit of scarves comes from their layering potential. Some winter days are colder than others. In fact, now and then, you get a weirdly warm day. Scarves can offer some extra warmth on those colder days but can easily be shed when the day begins to warm up.

Scarves can be very aesthetically versatile. You can get them in block colours, patterns, or prints. You can use a dramatic scarf to add something interesting to a plain outfit, or the reverse: use a plain scarf to calm down an already striking outfit.

They also come in various materials. You can get a thin scarf, made of silk or chiffon, for the early cold days, when it is only just beginning to get cold. You can also get thicker scarves, made of wool – or even chunky knit wool – for those deep, dark, frozen days in late December and early January.

Scarves are a classic winter accessory, so it makes sense to find some you really love and invest in them for your current and future wardrobe.

Boots

A good few pairs of boots are essential for winter. To stomp through frost, ice, and snow, you need some boots with a good grip to keep yourself upright. Given the long layers involved in winter outfits – the length of a scarf, well-loved trench-style coats – you also want to elongate your feet, and boots are a great way to do this. Whether they go to your ankle or higher, boots make you look taller, as well as ensuring you are nice and secure.

You can get great boots in a wide variety of colours – just look at Dr Martens wide range of boot styles – but often, a black or a brown pair are a safe bet. They’ll go with any outfit.

Plus, wearing your winter boots, you’ll feel like you can take on the world!
