Well, there is no better way for utilizing that space like making a home cinema especially with some professional solutions. Turning a room into a cinema is a relatively fun and easy thing to do as the fundamentals behind it are basic. We’ve chosen 9 of the most popular and effective tips you need.

Home Cinema Acoustics

Maybe you might have noticed that high-end audio stores have quite some unique way of demonstrating their speakers. It is not a trade secret. The sound quality of the speakers in your room will be better in a room with an acoustic design.

With acoustics, the outside noise doesn’t penetrate the room as they build a space that absorbs the sound. Other designs reflect or transmit it. Plus, they contain the inside sound. The incredible sound system comes down to how space is covered, top to bottom.

Window Coverings

If the room has windows, you might need to cover them to block out light. Room darkening shades from SmartFilm are a great option. There’s nothing as annoying as that huge glare on the screen that makes the moment a little uncomfortable. The right window coverings will give your room the home cinema experience you’ve always wanted.

Ceiling

For your room’s ceiling, acoustic tiles are a wise bet. If you notice in many movie theaters, the ceilings are usually covered in fiberglass panels much like the drop ceilings in most offices. Drop ceilings are especially great to cover the unfinished ceiling on a budget.

Because of the low ceilings in most homes, you might have to remove the existing ceiling first. You could add two layers of common fiberglass as insulation. The two layers of glass don’t necessarily retain more heat but they sure are effective in containing the sound. While insulation might be a bit messy to some, it is less expensive and easier to install.

Next, install the wiring for the lights, the ceiling projector, and the speakers. Finally, the drop ceiling made of fiberglass tiles comes in. Most cinema rooms are dark to create that theater experience, finding black tiles is a wise thing to do. If you are unable to find black panels, you could spray coat them with spray paint for nearly the same result.

Wall Surface

Most of us have drywall home walls and if you live in an older home, it might have plaster walls. These acoustics on these two materials are terrible. To fix this, add a lightweight acoustic board that can be found in most home improvement stores, and it’s inexpensive. Then, you can cover them with thin outdoor carpeting, like in most movie theater wall coverings. Again, to avoid ruining the floor carpet, you might need to complete the wall design before starting on the floor.

Floor Coverings

For the perfect acoustic design, avoid concrete, tile, or wood flooring. If possible, get a plush carpet. You can keep costs at a minimum by re-using the carpet you might have removed from another room.

Colors

A good cinema room will have colors that control light reflections from the screen and makes the room feel bigger. A black ceiling and navy blue wall design promise to give this experience. Plus, an off-white carpet to compliment. This gives you great viewing by creating a dark space that feels larger than it actually is.

Remote Control

It is always nice to be able to dim the lights without getting up. Also, it is never fun to stumble in the dark looking for the switch after your movie. So, avoid the inconvenience by wiring the lighting to a remote control switch.

Furniture Options

Specially designed, luxurious seats are a bit pricey for most of us. So, a couch you already own or a reclining seat could serve the purpose. If you have a space for two-row seating, a wooden platform covered with carpet and you are good to go.

Home Cinema Additional tips

Don’t forget the fine details of the design. A nice bar that doubles as a concession stand is a great setup. Also, you might add a backlit framed display of posters to complement the design.

These tips will transform your room into a cinema you’ve always wanted. Grab some popcorn and dive headfirst into the silver screen!
