6 Tips for Building the Perfect Man Cave

If you’ve had a space earmarked for a man cave since the day you moved into your house, then 2020 should be the year you finally turn it into a reality. What could be better than having a space where you can go and relax, play games, watch sports and drink beer without having to leave the house. 

Not only does the man cave give you a great space that adds to your house when it’s finished, but it’s also a good renovation project to get stuck into. If you’re a handyman then you can do the work yourself, but even if you’re not, you can enjoy planning out every aspect of your new man cave. 

Here are six tips for when you’re ready to get started on your new mancave!

Plan Carefully 

If you want to get your man cave right, then it’s best to carefully plan everything out. It might just be one room but building a man cave is still a big project, and there are plenty of things that can go wrong. 

Make sure you give all the small details careful thought and write out a plan you can follow. Spontaneity is great, but it can quickly lead to lots of problems which is not something you need. When you take on a renovation, you normally encounter at least one unexpected problem, but the better you can plan, the more prepared you are for whatever might come up. 

Budget

There are so many cool things you can do with your man cave that it can be easy to get carried away and blow through a budget in no time at all. To avoid this fate, you’ve got to be able to make a detailed and realistic budget. 

 

You want to get as many features into your man cave as possible, but at the same time, there’s no point having loads of gadgets in a half-finished room because you ran out of money to finish it.

Don’t Over Clutter

When we picture the most elaborate man caves, they’ve got so many things in them. Cinema screens, pinball machines, pool tables, darts boards, even bars. You name it, they’ve got them. But the most elaborate man caves are made in huge spaces, and the only reason they work is because they have so much space. 

You might want to fit everything into your man cave, but you’ve got to prioritize based on the amount of space you have. If you put too many things in there, then it’s just going to look cluttered. 

Choose the items that mean the most to you and use the space you have as wisely as possible. 

Have the Right Tools

Sure, you might be able to scrape by without all the proper tools, but it’s going to make your life so much more difficult and you risk making mistakes.

Think About Heating/ AC

If you’ve got a man cave with lots of gizmos using up energy, then they have the potential to put out plenty of heat, and in the summer, this can lead to these rooms getting incredible hot. 

During your planning stage, it’s a good idea to think about your heating and air conditioning needs, as it’s easier to sort out right at the beginning. It would be a shame to have perfect man cave, only for it to be freezing cold in the winter and unbearably hot in the summer. 

Lighting and Sound 

It’s the details that we love about a man cave, and the lighting and sound system are two items that can make all the difference. 

You want your man cave to be a place you can relax in, watch great movies, listen to good music and generally enjoy your time off. The lighting and sound system are going to make a huge difference to this, so make sure they’re both a priority. 

You can add extras like pool tables and dart boards at any time, but the best time to get your lighting and sound sorted is during construction.
