Here are just a few craft ideas to set up on the garden table and enjoy in the summer sun:

Flower pot decorating

Add a touch of colour and flair to your garden, with a crafting session painting plain ceramic pots. Let the kids loose with a paintbrush and acrylic paint, then seal the pots with a sealant spray to make them waterproof. Extend your craft session by planting something new and exciting in the decorated pots once they are dry and featuring them in the garden to enjoy during the summer.

Bird feeders

While there’s a plentiful supply of food during the summer months for birds and other garden wildlife, there’s no harm in serving up something tasty to feature on the bird table. Creating your own bird feeders is very easy and is the perfect outdoor crafting idea for a sunny day. All you need is an old teacup or coconut shell, suet and bird seed (these can both be found in your local supermarket).

You’ll need to melt the suet in the kitchen before taking it out into the garden and mixing it up with your chosen bird seed. Once it’s mixed, pour it into your teacup or coconut shell and leave it to set. Tie a piece of string through your teacup handle or in a hole poked through the coconut shell. Birds will love this tasty treat once it’s put out for them.

You could even pick up a blank birdhouse, craft suppliers such as Homecrafts offer these, and decorate this to hang your new bird feeder from, to encourage your feathered friends to nest their when spring rolls around again.

Rock painting

Pick out some smooth, palm-sized rocks and decorate these to feature around the garden. Perhaps you could write the name of the plants in the flower beds and place them alongside where they’re growing to remind you or you could create something with each of the family member’s names. Kids will love this messy outdoor crafting activity!
