DIY Project: How To Make Attractive Product Packaging

Spread the love

I know many interior designers have their own online shops selling various home accessories and furnishings. So do I –  in my online boutique I have authentic artisanal home decor objects found in the countries along the ancient Great Silk Route.

When it comes to packaging of my products for shipment I perceive it as an essential part of brand identity. For me it is as much important as the product itself.  It allows to make the last one even more attractive and show how much your customers are important to you.  Since all items in my shop are handmade, packaging is also done entirely by hand. I will share with you today one idea how I make it,  which you will be able to easily do it yourself.

Here are the steps:

1. THINK ABOUT YOUR BRAND

Nice packaging is a brand ambassador of your company. Among millions of other online shops you need to catch attention of a buyer and make him remember you. In my shop I sell unique, artisanal objects and I would describe my shop with the following core values “one and only, handmade, soulful”. Now the package that I make needs to communicate those values to the customer. I started with ordering simple stationary, such as stickers and ‘thank you’ cards with my logo printed on it. I have chosen warm beige colour palette which communicates the “soulfulness”  of my products and dark brown wrapping paper which is associated with luxury, thus emphasises uniqueness of my products.

2. CREATE THE CUSTOM PACKAGING

I made a pretty envelope for the cushion cover just in four easy steps:

I used double sided skotch tape instead of glue as it is more accurate and doesn’t leave dirty marks.

3. ADD A PERSONAL TOUCH

I always include in my package a hand written ‘thank you’ note, where I also write a few lines about product care and my contact details in case client has any questions. I only wish I had a prettier hand writing!

5. ADD SOME DELIGHTFUL DETAILS

Without some pretty details my parcel looks too formal and uninviting:

There is always a moment of thrill with online shopping when your purchase finally arrives. It reminds me the feeling I have when I open my Christmas presents. Adding some quirky details will make your client even more excited. For my packaging I decided to use a hemp thread to add a rustic feel and some cute little wooden beads, which will highlight the handmade quality of my products and their artisanal nature:
