L’Essenziale Choice: 10 Sensational Light Sculptures
Chandelier has always been a centerpiece for a room. Needless to say that you need to pay a lot of attention when choosing one. I personally love when chandeliers are big. I mean big big. One might object that you need a huge space to accommodate such a piece. True, but it is not always the case. Sometimes you can play around with scale and change perception of the space when giant objects will actually help you to pull attention from its small sizes.
A couple of words about where to place chandeliers. Chandeliers always catch our eye, despite any other features we have in the room. Think carefully about where you want this attention to be drawn. If it is a dining area, hanging a big light fixture over the table will always look chic and elegant. In living rooms, chandeliers are traditionally placed in the center, but again you can use your creativity and neglect this rule to highlight a specific area in the room. In a bedroom, despite it might look great, I don’t recommend you to hang a large chandelier over the bed – personally, I am never able to sleep, if I have something incredibly heavy hanging over my body.
Some of the chandeliers can’t be perceived as the only element of decor, but rather artwork, light sculpture or installation. Let’s talk a little bit more about them and dream that money is no object for us as below are presented some of the most luxurious and opulent pieces.
SPINA STAIRWELL CRYSTAL LIGHT SCULPTURE
This incredible 11 metre stairwell light sculpture resembling waterfall consists of thousands faceted crystals and pendants.
The crystal parts of this gorgeous chandelier resemble icicles, hanged on a spiral shaped metal carcass.
BIJU GRAND FRENCH WIRE CHANDELIER
The extra large Biju French Wire Chandelier measures over 1 metre in diameter – what a dramatic centrepiece! It consists of ornately shaped powder coated steel.
BRAND VAN EGMOND, HOLLYWOOD
Light sculptures from Brand Van Egmond are always quirky, elegant and lavish. Many of their creations are inspired by surrounding nature: for example, this extravagant chandelier reminds branches of dried-up tree.
BRAND VAN EGMOND, SULTANS OF SWING
Another creation from Brand Van Egmond, where old and new, east and west, traditions and innovations are whimsically mixed to make this lighting work of art:
BACCARAT, MARIE COQUINE
This extraordinary chandelier from Philipp Stark has already become an iconic design. Looking at it I always think that all genius is simple: Â plain umbrella + classic chandelier = masterpiece.
BARLAS BAYLAR, ATLANTIS
Beautiful and artisanal chandelier made of delicate fabric woven from over 4.000 meters of chain. Its shape reminds of inflated by wind sails and makes you dream about sea, vacation and romance.
Following the marine theme I would like to mention one more chandelier, which I adore. Recently it was featured in my post about Eclectic Interiors, where it was incorporated in a very boho style room. Just an idea that “nautical” objects don’t have to be always complimented with marine ropes, stripes and anchors.
MOTH DESIGN, LIZARD BROOCH CHANDELIER
Incrustated with  Swarowski crystals this magnificent yet delicate chandelier looks like a tree branch covered with sparkling frost.
PORCELAIN CHANDELIER, ABIGAIL AHERN SHOP
If you haven’t visited Abigail Ahern’s online shop yet, I strongly recommend you to do it straight away: there you will find a lot of quirky home accessories, stunning faux flowers, fabulous furniture and eccentric light fixtures. This glamorous porcelain chandelier is one of them:
