Getting Married On a Budget

Spread the love

With the UK on the brink of a recession, many of us are watching our pennies and trying to make our budgets stretch a little further.

In fact, according to recent data, it’s thought that around 1.6 million households are struggling to make their money go as far as this time last year.

Although designer clothes and too many takeaways might be off the cards, that doesn’t mean love has to be too!

If you want to get married, the good news is that planning a wedding on a budget is possible – and, dare we say it, fun! To find out how, read on.

Keep it intimate

Getting married is all about inviting your nearest and dearest. So why not keep it that way? By keeping the guest list intimate and refraining from inviting every single person you consider a friend, you can considerably cut the costs down. Even though it might be hard at first, cutting your guest list down is an important step. So, don’t feel guilty if not everyone makes the cut.

And if you need a bit of extra cash to pay for things like decorations or the venue hire (even after cutting down your guestlist), you might want to consider taking out a loan for additional financial help

Get thrifty

You know the saying ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’. So, why not get thrifty and opt for second-hand items? From table decorations to the dress itself, nothing is stopping you from saving a few pennies by buying pre-loved pieces.

Then, once you’re done, why not sell them on to make some cash?

Don’t mention marriage

Although you might want to shout it above the rooftops, when it comes to keeping costs down, it’s best to keep schtum. Lots of suppliers will willingly hike the prices when they sniff out a potential wedding. By keeping the wedding on the down low, venue hires and flower purchases may well work out cheaper.

It’s important to check each venue’s terms and conditions though. Some venues state that you must let them know if you are planning a wedding. So, it’s better to be safe than sorry!

Ditch the stag and hen parties

We get it. You want to celebrate getting married with a group of friends! However, lavish celebrations and expensive weekends abroad quickly eat into your budget. If you can, it’s best to have a lowkey celebration and save the celebration for your big day.

Final thoughts…

Although planning a wedding on a budget can be daunting, it doesn’t have to be! By cutting your guest list down, searching for pre-loved items, and paring back your pre-wedding celebrations, you can have the wedding you’ve always dreamed of, without the hefty price tag.
