Awesome Ways To Transform Every Room Into A Sleeping Space

Spread the love

You don’t have to sleep in your bedroom if you don’t want to. Really and truly, you can sleep in any room in your house. Bedrooms are just a convenient place to call one’s ‘sleeping space’ because a bed can be put there, as can other bedroom furniture, like wardrobes and cabinets.

If you want to sleep in other rooms in your house, then you can. Before you can begin sleeping in other rooms, however, you are going to need to convert those rooms into proper sleeping spaces. This post will tell you how you can do that:

Sofa Beds

A great addition to any room that you want to sleep in (or want to create for guests to sleep in) is a sofa bed. Investing in a sofa bed for a great night’s sleep will help to ensure that every room in your home is comfortable and relaxing. Obviously, you can’t put sofa beds in your home’s kitchen or bathrooms, so if you want to convert these rooms into sleeping spaces then you will need a futon, which will be addressed later on in this article.

Tatami Matting

Tatami matting is a type of flooring that’s made out of rush. It is Japanese in origin but is now found in homes all over the world. The reason that tatami matting’s so great is that it acts as a natural cushion. Japanese people put their futons directly on their tatami matting and sleep there. Sleeping on tatami matting is also very good for your spine, which will help you to improve your posture. You don’t have to put down an entire room’s worth of tatami matting, because you can buy standalone tatami mats, which you can store in a cupboard and take out when it’s time for bed.

Buying Futon

In Japan, people tend to sleep on futons, which are placed directly on their tatami mats, traditionally speaking at least. A lot of Japanese people no longer use tatami mats and futons and instead just sleep on beds. Irrespective of this, futons are great for converting any of your room’s homes into a bedroom. All that you need is a surface for the futon to go on, like a tatami mat. If your futon has a lot of padding, then you can put it straight on a hard surface like your home’s kitchen floor or even the inside of your bathtub.

Bed Linen

Comfortable bed linen will always make going to sleep a lot easier, no matter where one is trying to sleep. You need to make sure that the bed linen you invest in is proportionate to what your guests are going to be sleeping on. If you are going to invest in a large double sofa bed, then make sure that the bed linen’s sized appropriately. If you will be investing in a futon, then a single mattress and one pillow should suffice.

Decluttering

Whatever room you are going to sleep in, make sure that it’s not cluttered. A room that’s cluttered can be impossible to sleep in. Decluttering the room that your guests (or you)  are going to sleep in will make it a lot more comfortable and relaxing. Lots of clutter can prevent people from being able to sleep. You don’t necessarily have to keep the room clutter free at all times, you can just declutter before you or the person is about to go to bed. Obviously, if the room has other purposes than sleep then you won’t be able to keep it as a functional bedroom all of the time.

Hiding Wires

No matter where you or your guests will be sleeping in your house, make sure that you hide wires. Having exposed wiring or cables can actually significantly decrease your room’s sleep factor. It can be very hard to sleep when there are cables and wires everywhere. If they are plugged into anything, then it can actually make it dangerous, especially if you will be sleeping on the floor, because it could result in electrocution if any drinks are spilt or knocked over. Hide your home’s wiring and ensure that it is safe and can’t be damaged, especially if people are going to be sleeping on the floor.

Moving Furniture

Whenever anyone is going to be sleeping in a room that’s not a designated bedroom, you need to move that room’s furniture around so that the room is as comfortable as possible. If you fail to move furniture around, then you could end up making them very uncomfortable, and even putting them at risk. A room that’s full of furniture could be dangerous, because it could fall on them, or they could roll over and knock their heads against it, which could injure them.

Buying Flowers

If you want to make every room in your house a lot more comfortable, then you could consider going out and buying flowers. Buying flowers for the rooms in your house will make each room much nicer and more relaxing. This is especially true if the room that they will be sleeping in is a room that’s near to the kitchen or bathroom, where strong smells can occur. Flowers will drown out any of these smells, leaving the room that your guests are sleeping in fresh and nice to lie down in. You should try to get scented flowers rather than decorative ones so that any horrible smells are eliminated.

Adjust Lighting

In order to make a room suitable to sleep in, the lighting needs to be comfortable. A lot of rooms that aren’t designed as bedrooms have bright, halogen lightbulbs. A good way of improving the appearance of the other rooms in your house (so that they are as comfortable as possible) is to install a dimmer switch and use dimmer bulbs. By installing these bulbs, you will be able to ensure that each room in your home can be made a lot more comfortable.

You don’t need to have a bed in every room in your house for people to sleep in them, the rooms just need to be as comfortable as possible. Making each room in your house comfortable is a very effective way of ensuring that they are fit places for people to sleep. You never know when you are going to have guests, so preparing by improving each room is a great way of ensuring that any future unexpected guests are comfortable.
