If you have a vacation property that you would like to rent, it is essential to decorate it in a proper way. This, together with professional photos will not only increase your chances to rent it sooner but also will make your guest feel comfortable during their stay and encourage them to come again in the future.

Recently I have decorated my own airbnb apartment and would like to share with you some photos of how it turned out as well as some useful tips on how to decorate a rental property.

Decorating a rental property is totally different from decorating your own house. You need to minimize your personal belongings and make it attractive for the majority of people. Hence, opting for neutral and minimalist scheme is right way to go. At the same time you want to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, a “home away from home” feeling, that will make your clients relaxed while they are on holiday.

1. Start with a theme

Since our flat is located near the sea it was obvious to choose the coastal theme for decoration. I also incorporated a minimalist approach and I recommend to use it for all rental properties. First of all, if you don’t clutter the room with too many unnecessary furniture, you will make it look more spacious than it actually is. Secondly, most of people don’t like to be surrounded by personal belongings of other people while on vacation, so avoid using too much of unnecessary decor. Tastes are so much different: what you find cute and attractive, others might not find the same. Your goal is to make your property visually attractive to 90% of the people.

2. Pick a neutral color scheme

Unless you want to create a bold statement, that will be a selling point of your rental property, I recommend to go for a neutral color scheme, especially if your house is located in a picturesque natural surroundings. That way, colors that you used will not create a visual noise, that will distract from contemplating beautiful landscapes.

3. Use built-in storage

If you adapted minimalist style, opt for built-in storage options, rather than for a free standing furniture. That way you will create even cleaner, tidier look. Wardrobes with sliding doors look very modern and allow to quickly tidy up the room without occupying too much space. Also built-in furniture allows to use every centimeter of the storage space, both horizontally and vertically unlike its free-standing analogues.

4. Invest in quality bedding

For minimalist style bedrooms it is essential to use quality materials, furniture and textile. As there are not so many details for your eyes to focus on, each one of them will become the center of attention. Quality bedding is one thing that you can’t neglect, especially in a rental property. Not only it will allow your guests to have a good sleep at night, but also will serve much longer than its cheaper analogues. Investing well at the first place will actually make you save in the long run. This bedroom was decorated with beautiful Brise collection from Crown Goose. Their bedding is soft to touch, hypoallergenic and also very durable and strong. It is made of 100% cotton and has a beautiful, elegant beige color that so well coordinates with a coastal theme. Condensed stitch prevents unravelling of seam from end and button closures are secure and easy to use.

5. Add some greenery

Plants and flowers always add freshness and color to the space. They are ideal for decorating house in coastal style to create a relaxed, natural ambiance. Although for rental properties I recommend to opt for artificial greenery to avoid possible allergies.

6. Use different textures

If you chose neutral and minimalist scheme, there is a danger that the space will look too dull and uninviting. To avoid it, use variety of textures – these could be decorative pillows, throws, rugs and window treatments.

6. Don’t hide the view

If you are a lucky owner of a property with a view, it will be a shame to close it with heavy curtains. Instead, open it up and use minimalist blinds as window treatments.

7. Add some decor

Minimalist approach doesn’t exclude using some decoration. Without it, the interior might look too cold and boring. Think of beautiful side tables, flowers, vases, wall art and lamps.
