Sectionals: The Benefits of Sectional Sofas as Living Room Furniture

Spread the love

Sectional sofas are one of the most popular types of living room sofas. Popular alternatives to the sectional sofa include the Chesterfield sofa, mid-century modern sofas and divans. But what is a sectional sofa? And what are the benefits of sectional sofas as living room furniture?

Simplicity

A sectional sofa consists of a large single piece. It may be combined with a left arm sofa that can serve as a divan as well as a corner for the sectional sofa. In other cases, there is a single long sofa complemented by a large square stand-alone piece. This square or rectangular foot cushion can extended the couch in one direction or serve as a footrest for multiple people. Either way, you only need two pieces of furniture to fill out your living room. You have several potential arrangements, but you’re not rearranging half a dozen items to get to the configuration you want.

Capacity

One of the biggest benefits of sectional sofas is their capacity. You can sit half a dozen or more people on the typical sectional sofa. You have more sitting room relative to two or three smaller couches and a chair or two, since there aren’t a number of “arms” in the middle. You also have the space for one or more people to lie down on the sofa, and it doesn’t constrict them. In contrast, many people have to lay with their head or feet up to lay down on a shorter couch and certainly do if two other people are trying to share a conventional modern couch.

Flexibility

There are sectional sofas that have built-in sleepers. These sofas will turn into a guest bed when you extend it. You may even be able to turn half of the sectional sofa into a bed while continuing to sit on the other half. Good luck doing that with a day bed. Alternatively, you can buy a sectional sofa with built in recliners. Then you have one or more recliners built into the sofa, but they can serve as part of the sofa when the footrest is collapsed. These are called reclining sectionals.

Space

One of the issues with sectional sofas is how much space they take up. They are almost always large, and matching side sofas or foot rests are large, as well. When you order a sectional sofa, make sure it fits in the room you want to install it in and that it will fit through the door. But once you have it set up, you’ll love how much space you have. You have several additional “seats” because there aren’t armrests between people. You have room for larger individuals, pets next to their owners, and kids who want to lie down next to parents. This is why sectional sofas are popular with large families and people who often host company.

Variety

You can find sectional sofas with plush cushions, quilted cloth, leather covers and a number of other options. They’re found in a wide range of colors. We’ve already addressed the variety of styles you can find, whether it is a sectional couch with a hide-away bed or built-in recliners.
