Clever Design Details to Add Some Interest and Drama to Your Kitchen’s Design
Planning on renovating your kitchen and giving it some new life? Well it might be the time to take it up a notch. Often while focusing on the major design elements in the kitchen, we miss paying attention to details, sometimes even within those elements. Details matter a lot. You can either have a carefully designed beautiful kitchen or end up with a boring and dull one with just the common designs. Even if you do spend a lot on the renovation, this will make it look average.
To avoid that from happening, here are a few design details you should give attention to while design your kitchen:
Countertop Edges
One of the most carefully planned design elements during a kitchen remodel is the countertops. Because they happen to be one of the main visual elements too and really affect the outlook of your overall design. Can’t mess that up now can we? But one little detail that is very often missed out are the countertop edges. Why do they matter you might think. Well, choosing the countertop edges is like choosing the perfect accessories for your outfit. They can not only enhance the beauty of the design of your countertops but also amplify the overall interior design. There are five different kinds of countertop edges:
- Bullnose
- Ogee
- Half Bullnose
- Beveled
- Square Edges
Make sure you consult a complete list of countertop edges pros and cons before you go on the lookout for the right countertop edges for your kitchen!
Mix and Match Cabinet Colors
Apparently colors have a lot to do with a kitchen’s design. From walls to ceiling and now even cabinets need a careful selection of colors. While it SHOULD be careful, it doesn’t have to be MONOTONOUS! We love a contrasting moment going on.
You can paint your upper and lower cabinets a different color and make them stand out. A good practice is to color the upper cabinets a lighter color, and the lower cabinets a slightly ( or more) darker one.
This will not only make your kitchen look beautiful but also add a (much needed) splash of artistic wonder to it!
Don’t Overlook the Ceiling
The only time ceilings really got the spotlight was in renaissance architecture. They are almost always overlooked while designing a kitchen, even though they can really impact the appearance of the space. You can use ceiling tiles (excellent for a DIY project), vaulted ceiling, drop ceiling, tray ceiling, groin vault drywall ceiling, ,a bold color, wooden planks etc, to spice up your interior design.
Ceilings are known as the “fifth wall” of the kitchen and can also be used as the accent wall!
Create an Accent Wall
A simple yet brilliant idea! An accent wall can be one or more walls that are colored differently than the rest of the room. This really clever design detail will make your kitchen’s design pop up and add some interest and drama to the space. Now how do you choose the wall you want to use for the accent color? Here are a few things to keep in mind while choosing an accent wall:
- Walls With Open Shelves: Shelves displaying decorative items or ceramic pottery are an excellent choice to add some background decorative hutch.
- Let The Sight Take Over: The first thing you notice in your kitchen is probably what needs to stand out the most. Stand at the door of your kitchen and see what catches your eye first, and choose that wall to highlight that design element!
- Arched or Sloped Walls: If you happen to have any arched walls due to a barrel ceiling or an arched wall from a vaulted ceiling, it is the most preferable candidate for the accent wall!
Hopefully this will help you manifest your artistic side and bring some life to your kitchen’s design!
