Setenil De Las Bodegas: Incredible Town Under the Rock
Lying in the mountains of Andalusia, Setenil de las Bodegas has an amazing architectural landscape: multi-ton rock is overhanging the streets and alleys of the town, protecting it from piercing winds in winter and intolerable heat in summer. The houses, as if carved into basalt rocks, are an extension of natural stone caves. Basalt replaces walls, awnings and ceilings here, forming amazing natural arches. The boulders seem to be ready to collapse at any moment, but the history of Setenil goes back more than eight centuries – and during this time not a single urban structure was destroyed.

Setenil de las Bodegas is located in the province of Cadiz, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, in southwestern Spain.

The town is located 136 kilometers north-east of Cadiz and 97 kilometers from Malaga. Distance to Seville – 116 kilometers. The nearest airports – in Malaga and Seville – are located 101 and 123 kilometers, respectively.

Setenil de las Bodegas is renowned as the wine and gastronomic center of Andalusia. Here you can find excellent meats, including the savory pork chorizo sausages, which can be tasted in the city’s many bars and restaurants.
Bus service connects Setenil with Malaga, Cadiz, Seville and other cities in Andalusia, as well as the rest of Spain. To plan a route in the province of Cadiz, you can use the services of the transport companies Los Amarrilos, Sierra de las Nieves and Los Comes. Most of the routes change in the city of Rondo, 19 km south of Setenil de las Bodegas.
