Spread the love

You’ve seen the weather report and there’s going to be a heat wave, excitement may be kicking in right about now but stop what you are doing for a second! Daydreaming won’t do you any good if you haven’t prepared for a scorching summer, there are plenty of things we can do inside the house and in the garden to make sure we are ready for the heat.

Air Conditioning

Whilst we all love the sun and being hot outside, sometimes it’s nice to be able to get some rest from the constant humid heat, and the best way to do that is to install an AC unit. I know what you’re thinking, investing that kind of money might seem difficult, but you’ll be much better off in the long run. Having a brand new unit professionally fitted and will give you a good warranty, these experts say it will even save you money on your electricity bill! Having a place of luxury is easy when your home comes with climate control, and not only that, but it will heat your house in the winter when the heatwave is over.

The Garden

If you’re going to be spending a lot of time in your garden then it’s probably time to get the lawnmower out and give it a bit of a spruce up. Get the lawn in good condition by watering in the mornings and periodically mowing it, this will give it the best possible appearance. After the lawn has been taken care of, then give some care and attention to the surrounding areas and plant some flowers and prune any shrubs and bushes you have. Having a beautiful garden will make your house a great place to entertain your friends and have a good time.

Furniture

You’ll have to have some garden furniture if you’re going to fully enjoy the heat on its way so it’s time to invest a little to get a set that will last longer than one summer. If you’re going to have friends over, it’s probably best to get some that will seat more than four people, that way you’ll all have somewhere to sit when sipping a beer late into the evening.

BBQ

Summer isn’t complete without the addition of a proper grill. Friends and family all sitting around with a few standing next to the grill making sure the burgers are cooked to perfection. Get your BBQ game ready for some serious cooking by giving it a well-deserved cleaning, ready for the first time you fire it up. It might be worth getting some extra equipment like an apron to avoid ruining some nice summer clothes you might have and it’s worth sourcing some decent meat to cook. If you have a grill that runs on gas, then make sure your propane tank isn’t low, and stock up on a few if you plan on using your BBQ every night.

Swimming Pool

There’s nothing better on a hot day than jumping into a swimming pool and cooling off, and it’s become much easier for people to have it in their backyard without spending thousands of dollars! There are plenty of places that supply above ground pools and they will give the perfect addition to your summer activities. If you have children, then there are hours of fun to be had all whilst keeping them fit and healthy, and it’s good fun for the adults too. Make sure you follow the instructions that come with the pool and don’t ignore anything, water quality is important, even if it is a large scale paddling pool.

Don’t Let Anything Spoil the Party

It’s easy to get carried away, but it’s important to remember that we aren’t the only animals that will be experiencing a heat wave, there will be plenty of other animals and insects seeking out shade and some cooler climate. If you have insect screens installed on your house, then remember to keep them closed and if you don’t, then maybe it’s time to do some research. The last thing you want is to find hundreds of spiders in your front room, especially if you’re an arachnophobe.

When it comes to summertime, make sure you’re prepared for it personally as well as your house, stock up with sun cream, and stay hydrated during the heatwave. On top of that try to not let the heat get to you too much, if you need to cool off, then why not jump in your new pool or go and relax in the air-conditioned kitchen. If you already have an AC unit then it’s best to get it serviced before it’s too late, we don’t want anything ruining our summer.
