Light It Up

One of the best ways of increasing the size of anything is to give the space more light. If possible add a window as this will allow more light into your room, making it feel larger.

Of course, adding a window is not always an option. Instead, you can add extra lighting or you can add extra mirrors. Equally, you could do both.

Mirrors will need to be positioned to bounce the natural light around the space. You’ll be surprised at how much difference it makes.

Furnish It

The next step is to consider the furniture in your room.  You should opt for a minimal look, that means everything that you need but nit an excessive number of items. It’s also a good idea to take a theme for your room, such as this elegant French provincial furniture. This will help you not to overload the furniture and create a statement at the same time.

By drawing people’s eyes to the furniture they’ll notice the size of the room less.

High shelves

Drawing the eye is a great way to increase the feeling of space. Get yourself some nice shelves and put them high on the walls, not too far from the ceiling. This will encourage your eyes to look upward, which increases the feeling of space.

Remove Clutter

Just as you want to minimize your furniture you should also be looking to minimize your clutter, that’s ornaments and other items sat around on the sides. These attract the eye and make the space feel smaller than it is. Spread your ornaments out and remove the ones that you don’t really need. It will make a big difference.

Long Curtains

If you’re having curtains in your windows then choose long curtains that hang from the ceiling to the floor. This will make the window look much bigger than it actually is and help to make your room feel taller.

You can color coordinate the curtains with your other soft furnishings to create the right look, using bright colors for the soft furnishings will help to brighten the room and give it character.

Remember, you need to live and use the space, that means keeping a balance between practicality, feeling larger, and making it a comfortable room.
