5 Modern Ways to Recycle Your Old Furniture

Spread the love

When furniture has been in your house for several years it starts to look tired, even if it is not actually worn-out. At this point, many people decide to throw-away or sell their old furniture and invest in new items.

Unfortunately this is not necessarily good for the environment and is certainly not good for your wallet. In addition to changing the furniture you’ll almost certainly want to change the design of each room, which costs even more money.

Instead of simply getting rid of old furniture, it’s time to look at the best ways of recycling it.

Take It To A Charity Shop

If you really can’t stand to have the furniture in your house anymore then you need to take it to a charity shop. This will allow someone else to purchase it for a reasonable price and you’ll be helping a good cause in the process.

If you’re going to struggle to get it to a recycling shop then consider using an environmentally friendly clearance firm, they’ll make sure it gets re-homed rather than just thrown away.

Trade It In

Many furniture shops now accept old furniture and offer a small amount of the price of new furniture. This works in much the same way as when you trade in your car. The business may want to see the furniture before they commit to a price or they may simply take all furniture for a set price.

Either way, it goes to a new home while you get your nice new furniture.

Sell It

If the furniture is still in good condition and has life left in it then you can sell it privately. Most of the social media sites have an option to sell items and you can also place advertisements online and in shop windows.

It probably won’t take long to find a buyer and get some funds towards your replacement furniture.

Re-Purpose It

Another great idea is to repurpose the item. You can do this with a nice coat of French polishing, making it look like new again. Or, you can opt for chalk paint to create a whitewash effect, this style is extremely popular at the moment.

Re-purposing it means you can keep the item, even if it changes room. In fact, you’ll be surprised at how much you like the new look and may even want to change more of your furniture this way!

Car-Boot It

Finally, another way of selling it so that it is used by others is to take your furniture to a car boot sale. If this is really impossible then you can always find a few items to sell and hold your own sale at home. Providing you advertize people will come and, hopefully, purchase the items you’re selling.

There are other ways of recycling your old furniture, such as simply giving it to a friend. You’ll have to decide which way is most appropriate for you and your furniture.
