Vinegar
Vinegar is a powerful substance that is effective at freshening clothes and at taking the salt off your boots after a hard day in the snow. But, it’s also effective at protecting your home from insects!
It is particularly good at deterring ants. Simply put some apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle with water. The mixture should be approximately 50/50.
You can then spray it around the perimeter of your home and at the base of any specific object the ants find interesting. You can also spray it on the ants and watch them scurry away.
Of course, you’ll need to pray regularly to keep the protection in place.
-
Cayenne Pepper
Cayenne pepper is hot, by sprinkling a tiny bit of it where ants like to meet, you’re telling them there is no sweet food there. The scent of cayenne overpowers any sweet scent and leaves the ants looking for food elsewhere.
Of course, sprinkling cayenne pepper is likely to be a little messy so choose your locations wisely.
-
Peppermint Oil
Most insects don’t like peppermint which makes it a great plant to grow in the garden as it smells great. You can add oil to cotton balls and place them in key locations, you can mix a few drops of oil with water and spray the solution around the outside of your home, or, you can add a few drops of peppermint oil directly to the worst affected areas.
It will take a little trial and error to get the right spot but it will work.
-
Lavender Oil
This works along the same principle as peppermint oil, you can place it around your home, in the same way, to persuade insects to stay away.
You can also mix it with Eucalyptus oil to make a solution that keeps mosquitoes away. It can even be used to help any existing bite heal.
-
