The horizontal steps from the lower part connect with the second half of the U-turn. This adds vertical lines that have a gentle curve. It makes for a great spot to read, write, or rest.

The suspended stairs give it an illusion of hanging in mid-air. Their pale wooden color matches well against the white walls and floor as well. Not only do the stairs have a secondary purpose but they’re pleasing to look at too as they’re right by the windows.

The gentle curves of the steps that aren’t suspended make them a great choice for keeping shins safe. Although, we suspect you won’t get into many accidents if you had this awesome centerpiece in your house. We’d be staring at these awesome stairs designed by Arquitectura en Movimiento in awe too.

Place anything from shoes and umbrellas to books and utensils in them. There are a few different sizes for many different-sized items. You might even place a clothes rod inside so you could hang garments inside the taller spaces.

  1. Staircase with a Slide

If you’ve got kids in the house, getting stairs like these could be the best thing to happen in their childhood home. Take points from the stairs in the Panorama House in South Korea. Moon Hoon kept space, function, and fun in mind when she created the design for these cool stairs.

The wooden staircase takes up a good amount of room in the house. There’s enough for kids to run up the flight without having to push each other through a tight gap. A partition divides the stairs from the slide.

That’s not all these stairs are for. The open shelf-like space under each step allows the residents to place books in them. The open treads create a bleacher-like seating area for a home cinema.

Under the stairs is a study area for the kids. Although, we’re not saying only the kids could use the slide for playtime. Even grown-ups could feel young again in their private home with a built-in slide.

  1. Wooden Strips Staircase

Let’s look at the staircase in the restaurant of the Les Haras de Strasbourg hotel. Designed by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku of Agence Jouin Manku, they overhauled a building from the 18th century. In the past, the establishment functioned as a royal stud.

For the staircase that joins the hotel and restaurant, they followed the place’s equestrian background for the theme. They took the idea of luxury and comfort inspired by the equestrian world. They used this theme across the restaurant and hotel.

They used elements of oak for the wooden strips. The wooden strips enhance one side of the handrails as well. The strips seem to surround and spiral with the staircase, giving it a modern yet rustic feel.

  1. Suspended Stairs

Did you know that climbing stairs get recommended as a great weight loss strategy? A 150-pound person could lose up to 544 calories walking up the stairs for an hour. What better way to lose weight than with style?

Suspended staircases have always been a thing. With this design, we’re talking about one more creative than the typical suspension. The handrails are not horizontal but instead vertical.

Sergey Makhno Architects added a step-to-ceiling cord to the end of each suspended step to create the illusion of hanging steps. The simple color and design allow it to match any theme. The sleek steps may work well with a wooden but harsh background.

  1. Rainbow Spiral Stairs

Here’s something you can duplicate with ease. Look for any spiral staircase you’ve got in your home. All you need to do next is buy different paints belonging to the colors of the rainbow.

Painted well, your very own spiral stairs at home can look very refreshing and enlivening. Glass handrails make the best combination with this design. If you have handrails made of wood or metal, feel free to give them a splash of color as well.

Want a galaxy feel or a silhouette of the family? Paint your favorite constellations into the blues, purples, and reds. Or, add the silhouettes of family members into the brighter colors.

Create your own creative stairs with other color schemes. Use pastel colors or blend hues to widen the color palette. The fun part here is that you get to paint new additions to the design.

  1. Spine-Like Staircases

Designer Philip Watts creates wonderful bespoke staircases. He believes that ‘a staircase should be a piece of art that you can walk up’. Thus, he makes unique and custom staircases that suit the space he works with.

One of his noteworthy works is the spine stairs in Northamption, UK. It’s made from hand cast aluminum finished with bright polish and timber threads. From underneath, the shape follows that of a silver spine.

Looking at it is like looking at modern art, which we’re certain is what Philip Watts means to do. He also has other designs in other places that follow a similar theme. You can check his website to see his staircases in Southend, Holland Park, and Les Houches.

  1. Flower Spiral Stairs

Let’s talk about another of Patrick Jouin’s works. The flower petal spiral staircase has a great design that you can view from two perspectives. The first is from the lower floor and the other is from the top.

Looking at the creative steps from a distance is different from looking at it from above. Below, you’ll see a set of modest wood stacked and spiraling into itself. The thin handrails add an elegant but subtle form of utility.

Your perspective from atop gives a different image. What you will see is the staircase creates a spiraling flower. The thin inner handrail helps create this illusion by guiding your eyes to the spiral.

  1. Pull-Out Shelves under the Stairs

Haven’t got a lot of space in the hallway next to the stairs? Make use of the space underneath them as pull-out shelves or drawers. It’s a creative way to store items and take better advantage of the cupboard area.

Deriba Furniture made a creative and space-smart staircase design. First, they partitioned the space to fit four shelves. They left the top parts right under the incline as triangular shelves.

The next thing they did was install the gliding mechanism and shelves. They left both sides open for easy access. The higher the stairs on top went, the more layers they could put.

The faces of the shelves had subtle handholds for opening the roll-out shelves. Each shelf layer has enough space to hold a medium-sized box or first-aid kit. It’s a great place to store board games, towels, books, and more.

  1. Sloping Stairs

The typical stair design is to follow a slope with rectangular boxes. For this design, we’re using triangular boxes to follow the slow. Imagine going up a set of stairs but every step is sloping away from the middle.

These architectural stairs are a low-budget project made out of stacked boxes of pine. Taf Arkitektkontor took stair creativity to the next level with this design. If you viewed it from above, it looks like a stack of zigzagging triangles.
