How To Choose The Right Flooring For Your Home

Spread the love

Buying a new house is just the first of your problems. You probably thought that now that you have a new property, the rest of the work is going to be easy-peasy. Well, while we’re hoping that it goes that way for you, we have just witnessed so many cases (like yours) encounter a lot more trouble after the house purchase rather than before. Let’s just say that it’s better to not get your hopes up.

But hey, you’re moving to a new place huh? That’s pretty neat news. Due to escalating prices, many American families spend (at least) half of their productive years renting a one-bedroom apartment or a small bungalow. As of 2018, rent prices aren’t that cheap either (Check it out here: https://www.businessinsider.com/rental-prices-are-soaring-around-the-us-2018-7). The worst part is that you’re paying for something that can never be yours. Sure, you have a roof over your head and you don’t have to worry about maintenance costs (which is quite practical). But, what if something happens? What if your lessor finds himself in a pinch and needs to sell the property quickly? What will you do then? When you’re just renting a place, you’ll never feel secure or stable. After all, you never know what’s coming ahead of you. So for you to finally have your very own house? That’s just incredible. It’s a pretty big boss move.

What’s next, though?

To start, you have to worry about the “structural” part of your new home. If you got your house at a “bare-finish” state, this means that it hardly has anything inside. It would just have the walls of the exterior, the roof, and probably a cemented floor. It may not even have room partitions yet. So if you’re planning to take things slow and build your dream home one step at a time, then I propose that you start with a good floor. You can make do without all the paint and improvisations for now – as long as everything looks tidy and clean – but a good floor is definitely a must-have. A cemented floor can be very dusty and rough. When you have kids, that’s hardly an environment you would want to expose them too – especially at such a sensitive age. If you’re not careful, they might develop chronic asthma or something!

So first things first, you need to get your house some pretty nice flooring.

Choosing The Right Flooring Type

Selecting the right flooring material can be very tough and confusing. I mean, there’re just so many choices! And of course, you would want it to look good too. For today, I’m going to introduce you to three major types of flooring material. Hopefully, one of these grabs your attention. If you feel like our input isn’t enough later on, feel free to check out this awesome guide from Spruce.

Vinyl – This flooring type is one of the cheapest finds in the market. Most apartments and flats use vinyl to cover up cemented floors neatly. It’s made of waterproof and (often) rubberized plastic and it’s usually bought in “rolls.” One big roll is enough to fill-out a 25 to 30 sq. m. room so people often prefer it due to affordability. They come in many, colorful designs. There are also designs that mimic natural stone or hard wood. Since it is made with synthetic resin, it’s glossy. It’s the kind that reflects light back. If you have a very strict budget, then going with vinyl may be a practical choice.

Hard Wood – Without doubt, engineered hardwood flooring exude elegance and sophistication. It makes the interior of your home feel a lot cooler too. They’re somewhat heavier which makes them more challenging to install – but hey, that would be the installer’s problem and not yours. Compared to Vinyl, Hard Wood flooring also lasts longer since it’s made of natural wood. When it comes to design, there’s not much to choose from aside from colors and cuts but the natural look of wood is already beautiful. Don’t you agree?

Ceramic Tiles – Well, there are many types of floor tiles but I guess ceramic ones are a popular choice among domestic households. Ceramic tiles are cheaper than wooden floors and they typically last just as long (especially when they are installed correctly). Aesthetically-speaking, ceramic tiles also come in a variety of designs and sizes so I’m sure that you’ll be able to find something that fits your taste. They can be a bit slippery when wet, though – so keep the kids away when you’re mopping!
