Window Cleaning Tips & Tricks
Windows – they’re probably the most overlooked part of any home, building, or place of business. What we fail to understand is that windows, although often ignored, give us more things that we can’t bear to live without. It gives us protection from the harsh outside world. During summer, when the heat is very harsh and the air is too humid, windows protect us from discomfort. It shields us from the sun’s violent rays and keeps out the humid air (Check this article out if you think you’re getting too much sun: https://www.shape.com/lifestyle/mind-and-body/weird-side-effects-too-much-sun). During winter, when it’s freezing cold outside and temperature’s drop below zero, windows protect us from the chilly air that whiffs through our homes. It protects us from hail, storms, and blizzards.
Windows do more work for us than we bother to appreciate. It’s about time we give the attention that’s due to them. We can start by doing something really simple – making sure that they are crystal clear and squeaky clean.
This is why today I am dedicating this entire article to windows. This may sound absolutely crazy but yeah, windows really do deserve this much attention. And I’m going to teach you how exactly you are going them the care they deserve.
Different Type of Window Stains & The Best Way To Clean Them
Dust & Dirt
For a dusty and dirty window, you don’t really need much. A pail of water and a clean cloth will suffice. When choosing a type of cloth to clean your windows with, always choose cotton. A window’s glass is highly susceptible to damage, especially scratches. Using a hard textured cloth can really leave serious marks on them. Use a smooth, cottony cloth that’s dampened with water and carefully wipe off the dust and dirt from your windows with a single motion.
It is important to note that when you wipe, you should follow one direction. If you’re wiping to the left, then keep wiping to the left. Don’t zigzag through the glass for it will leave unnecessary marks. The dampened cloth should also be squeezed really well so that it’s damp but not wet. Otherwise, it will leave water marks instead. So it’s like you’ve solved one problem only to have another one. For hard, dirt stains that seem to have dried up for a long time, using warm water (not too hot or your window glass might break) to dampen the cloth is ideal. It will help soften the dirt for faster removal.
Water Stains
This type of stain usually results from raindrops or previous window cleanings. As mentioned earlier, when the cloth is too wet, it may leave water marks when your window dries. If left unattended, these water marks become stains that are hard to erase. The same thing happens when it rains outside and you just leave your windows to air dry.
To remove water stains, you need a clean damp cloth and some pieces of newspaper (other smooth paper material will work too). Repeating the same process as you would to remove dust and dirt, wipe your windows clean with the damp cloth. After wiping down, however, you must quickly dry it off with old sheets of newspaper or other smooth paper material. This will help prevent the stains from forming again and will leave your windows perfectly clear and smudge-free.
Stains That Are Hard To Reach
Some windows are just beyond our measly reach. I’m talking about windows in two-storey houses, buildings, and skyscrapers. For windows like these, it would be best to leave the work to professionals. There are many window cleaning companies offering their services online so you can easily look for a company that is highly accessible in your area. Finding one is pretty simple too. Just type “window cleaning services + your place of residence/business” and Google should get you to the right places pronto.
For windows that are hard to reach, professionals use specific tools and methodologies to clean them. You can’t just rope yourself to your property’s roof and bungee jump to the next high window, after all. That would be too dangerous. Instead of taking matters into your hand, it would be best to leave this kind of work to professionals. Otherwise, you might lose more than what you bargained for. Also, safety is a pretty big issue and you know what people always say, “safety first.”
There are many competent window cleaning companies out there; you just have to know where to look. Ask for friendly recommendations, consult family members’ advice, or look for a company yourself online. Surely, you will find a company that’s willing to care for your windows as much as you care for them.
Again, take better care of your windows. They deserve it!
