Small Changes to Make Your Home Feel More Welcoming
It’s often the little things that really make the difference. When you get home, feeling comfortable helps to relax you and ease life’s stresses away. It’s not always the huge makeovers that you see on TV that deliver happiness or contentment.
Here are some small changes to make at home to make it feel more welcoming.
Make Sure the Front of the Property is Well Kept
While you’ll certainly want to prepare your home for winter if you haven’t done already, one of the best steps to make is to keep it tidy. Whether the front lawn ends up with a layer of snow this winter or not, it should be mowed while it’s still possible to do so. Tend to any potted plants to ensure they’re being cared for properly too.
Check the driveway and pathway up to the front door. See if there are any loose rocks, stones or debris that will be easy to trip over when carrying presents indoors or under a layer of snow in the coming weeks. Also, brush up leaves that have fallen during autumn to make the front area cleaner.
Entryway Makeover
When you walk through your front door into the entryway, it’s the first thing you see indoors when you get home. Is it a cluttered space with too much going on or does it instantly change your mental outlook to the positive, no matter what kind of workday you’ve had? If it’s the former, then it’s time to give the entryway a much-needed makeover all its own.
Depending on the size of the space, you probably have too much crammed into it. If you have a table, is it slimline taking up little width so it hugs the wall, or does it crowd out the floor space? Swap the table out for something more modest if it’s too large.
If you have shoes scattered around the floor near the door, invest in a compact shoe rack to tidy up the space and avoid tripping up!
Consider adding a standing vase with a tall plant. Aim for something slim and tall. Position it in one of the corners to give it its own space. After leaving the overhead lighting of the office environment, it creates a good feeling to see living things in your home. It doesn’t even matter if you don’t have much of a green finger. The care instructions for most plants aren’t long or difficult to grasp. Add a repeating watering task to your digital calendar if you think you’ll forget to do it.
Better Illumination Levels to Lighten Your Mood
A lower light level often brings down your mood. It’s difficult to feel as tired after a long day when you have led ceiling lights that light up the living space.
There’s a wide range of LED lights available to suit the different décor in each room. The number of lumens (illumination level) varies depending on the size and design of the light fixture. Select different fixtures based on how much light is required in each living space.
LED ceiling lights come in all shapes and sizes. They can be spotlights, a light strip across the ceiling or a ceiling lamp that’s decorative. If you’re not sure which design would be best, you can find a variety of LED lights here to help make your choice an easier one.
Like to Read? Create Your Reading Nook
For bookworms, reading is something they love to delve into and lose themselves. It feels good to read a novel by a favourite author or digest a guidebook for a destination that you’re planning to travel to in a few months’ time.
What’s even better is when you create your own reading nook. It’s a perfect place to hide away from anyone you share the home with to get some quiet reading time, alone. Retiring to this spot when you want an hour or two to read undisturbed is a personal oasis. If that’s you, dream up what feels like a comfortable nook and get busy creating it.
Make the Living Room Cosier
Think of some changes you can make to the living room, so it feels cosier. Perhaps a soft rug on the floor to rest your feet or a padded footrest to elevate your feet would help? If the sofa isn’t that comfortable, what about adding some additional cushions, a throw rug over it or getting a replacement if your budget will stretch to that. The post-Christmas sales often have great deals on larger items like sofas and armchairs.
It doesn’t take much to create a home that puts you at ease either upon first waking up or when arriving back from work. It isn’t particularly expensive either. No grand gestures are needed. Just pay attention to what matters most and only make those changes.
