Girls Bedroom Design – Project Development
In one of the recent posts, I shared how I worked on the design of a boy’s room in the three bedroom apartment in Moscow. Today I want to show the girl’s bedroom from the same project. The whole flat could be seen on my portfolio website.
As with any other interior design project, my process starts with client’s meeting and discussing their preferences and needs. We talked about the necessity of a large desk for studies and painting classes, cozy nook for reading, large storage for clothes and books as well as separate zoning of a sleeping area. The client has mentioned bright joyful colors as an accent, yet the overall palette should be calm and neutral.
I’ve come up with the following mood board as a concept. It doesn’t show exact design choices – only the direction and overall mood that I want to create.
The next step was measuring the space and its planning. At this stage, I start sourcing the furniture to know its exact measurements:
It will be also used for renderings, as I always show the real furniture pieces and decor that will be used, rather than placing 3D models that would be impossible to find on the market. Since the room is very long, I decided to divide it into two zones using glass dividers.
In a relaxing corner, I placed a small swing – it would be nice for the girl to be able to make a break from studies and read a book. Macrame wall decor adds a bohemian touch to the space. Natural plants will bring freshness and liveliness to the room.
Subtle pastel green is a perfect color choice for a bedroom since it sets you on a relaxing, calming mode. I complimented it with natural browns and dark greens. Little red and orange accents add some vibrancy and energy to the overall color scheme.
Next to the window, there is a small canopy bed – it will be custom made in a carpentry workshop. The work desk is Malm from IKEA. Posters and bookshelves make this area look very cozy and personalized.
One more request from the client was to place a dressing table – I allocated it in front of the bed. Round bamboo mirrors are from Zara Home. The green bedding makes the room look tranquil and cozy – perfect ambiance for a bedroom.
The ochre yellow rug creates a warm accent and its combination with green was inspired by the moodboard.
The large storage for clothes will be provided with two white IKEA wardrobes placed next to each other.
What do you think of this project? Looking forward to your comments!
