Living Room Styling With Unique Rug Store
When I was approached by Unique Rug Store to review and use one of their rugs in my projects, I was totally thrilled. First of all, because I have always had a weakness for unique artisanal objects and one-of-a-kind pieces. Secondly, because all their rugs are so beautiful and of outstanding quality, they would enhance and become a great addition to any interior.
So today I wanted to share how I used their overdyed turquoise rug from their Vintage collection to style a living room.
I did it in collaboration with George El Greco Interiors and all furniture and accessories that you see on the pictures below could be found in their showroom in Marbella.
Here is the look:
About the rug
This rug was made using ancient Turkish techniques. It is fashioned from original handmade and organically dyed wool and cotton blend vintage Turkish rug.
The edges are handsewn and to achieve this gorgeous authentic look it was shaved, bleached, colorized, overdyed and dried. In the process, it was soaked in a pool of boiling water with only TÜV approved textile dyes of the highest and safest quality.
The colored Vintage Collection has been produced from Turkish carpets of at least 40-50 years of age. Each carpet is carefully selected and undergoes a unique process of color neutralization before being overdyed with an exciting new color. The result is a mix of traditional Turkish carpet design fused with a contemporary style.
When you are using the rug of such deep and energetic colour, you need to give it the chief role in an interior and not overload it with other bright decor objects or furniture. However, it is great to use small accessories of the similar colour (like for example, I did with these figurines on the coffee table) to pull the whole scheme together.
When you are purchasing a rug it is also important to put the size into consideration – it shouldn’t be too small, otherwise it will look like a patch on the floor. It is great to use it as an “island” that will unite the furniture into a zone. Thus, at least front legs of chairs and sofa should stand on the rug to achieve this effect.
You can use vintage overdyed rugs in almost any interior style whether it is traditional or contemporary. Here, natural rattan furniture, ethnic decor and plants highlight its authentic, original look.
Unique Rug Store also sent me this gorgeous cushion cover from their sister company – Kilim Pillow Store. I used it to decorate one of the chairs to create even more eclectic and personal feel:
