This is also the time that you need to find the perfect toy for your baby; it should be something that responds to them and allows them to learn and develop through interactive and sensory play.

You can actually improve their learning by adding specific features into their rooms that encourage them to indulge in sensory play. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Color Cards

You can stick a variety of items to a piece of card or wood and then affix this to the wall of your toddler’s room.

The items you attach should be a variety of different sizes and textures. This will allow your toddler to touch them and start to understand the different textures in the world around them.

Light It Up

Children respond surprisingly well to lights. You can easily create a light display in their room by using a disco ball, dedicated light feature or even a color changing night light. You may even be able to use ‘Alexa’ to help create changing light colors.

This will enchant your toddler for hours while helping them to learn.

Create A Hoop

Take a standard hula hoop and wrap it with a variety of different materials and even toys; especially those that make a noise. You can then either keep this attached to the wall or give it your baby whenever you want; helping them to understand the world round them.

Put Rugs Down

It’s a good idea to have hardwood or a similar type floor in your toddler’s room as this will help you to clear up any mess. However, you can also use this to make it part of your toddler’s sensory play.

Simply add a variety of rugs that have different textures; your toddler will feel them as they crawl or even start walking round their room.

Create A Sound Wall

Why play music in your toddler’s room when you can get them to use sensory play to create their own?

Simply collect together some plastic bottles and half fill them with different things. Dried pasta, rice, dried peas or even marbles are all good options. Your toddler can then shake each of them to hear the different sounds.

You can also introduce these objects to their hands but you’ll need to watch them to ensure they don’t swallow them!
