DIY Hanging Cushions Headboard

Spread the love

Some time ago I made this home staging and decorating project in Moscow – one bedroom apartment decorated in Greek style. I love how simple and relaxing the space turned out! The budget was very limited so I had to be inventive and made most of the decorative elements myself: hanging cushions headboard, ladder for clothes, and sofa cover. In today’s post, I want to share with you the instructions for making this stylish fabric headboard. I personally had a very similar one in my bedroom in Yerevan and was delighted how comfortable and practical it was. You can wash it in the washing machine any time you want and also, which is important, it is quite easy and fast to make.

Supplies needed:

  • approx 200 x 130 cm of the fabric of your choice (depending on the fabric width and the width of your bed)
  • wadding or other filling material
  • curtain rod (I got mine at IKEA)
  • sewing machine
  • tape measure
  • needle and thread

Step 1

Once you have all supplies ready, use tailor’s scissors to cut two large rectangles of fabric measuring 104 X 74 cm for cushions that will measure 50 X 70 cm (I left 2 cm on each side for the seams). Fold fabric in two: finished cushions will have no seam on the bottom. Iron them properly so that it will be easier to sew.

Step 2

Cut templates for the strips – 5 pieces of fabric measuring 22 x 11 cm (ready strips will measure 20 X 5 cm as I left 1 cm on each side for seams). Fold the strips lengthwise and iron them properly. Sew them lengthwise and turn them out so that the seam will be left inside.

Step 3

Fold the strips and attach 5 of them to each of the cushions – they need to be attached to the backside of the cushion so that when you turn it out they will be on the top front side. Sew the cushions along its perimeter and leave around 5 cm hole for filling it with wadding. Turn out the cushions to its front side.

Step 4

Fill cushions with wadding through that little hole that you left in the seam. Sew the whole manually and try to make the seam as discreet as possible.

Step 5

Hang the cushions on the curtain rod and attach it to the wall. You are finished!
