Walks Around Casco Antiguo (Old Town) in Marbella

Spread the love

I am so lucky to live in one of the most beautiful and charming cities in the world – Marbella in Spain. One of my favorite places here is the old town. I just love walking around “Casco Antiguo” especially when siesta is over and you can enjoy shopping in authentic Spanish shops as well as a glass of delicious wine with olives in any of the local bars and tapaserias. Tapas is traditional Spanish snacks and there is a huge variety of them up to any taste – with jamon, meat, tuna, or vegetables. I was surprised to learn though that one of the most popular tapas in Marbella is Russian salad – most likely a tribute to a huge Russian community living here. My favorite though are those with sardines and one of the most delicious red wines that I tried here is called Azpilicueta.

Tip:

One of the hidden places in Old Town that is mostly known by locals is called Estrecho Bar – there I tried some of the tastiest tapas in Spain, so if you are in Marbella don’t miss the chance to try it out.

Marbella is part of Andalucia and you can feel a strong Arabic influence here since they dominated the region for several centuries. This is reflected in architecture, culture, food and city structure. Old town looks like a typical Medina in Morocco with muddling little streets resembling a clew of yarn.

Despite the houses in old town are very diverse with each one of them being unique and authentic they are all united by similar Andalucian style. This style can be defined with the use of colorful ceramic tiles with oriental patterns for the walls and stairs, traditional Arabic pendant lights, wooden doors and lots of greenery – plants in the pots and climbing plants on the balconies.

My attic apartment is also located in the old town so every evening I enjoy these incredible sunsets:
