Home Improvements You Need To Make For The Summer

Spread the love

Heat is great, but no one wants to be melting in the sun without being able to do anything about it. You know that feeling when you step outside into the garden to cool down, but the air is just as hot as it is outside than inside? – Inescapable. So don’t let this happen this summer – prepare yourself and your home so that you can enjoy the sun while still being able to breathe!

Here’s how you can do that.

Paint your roof

You know when you buy a car, and if you live in a very hot location, it’s not wise to purchase something black because it absorbs heat, so you are better off going with a lighter color to reflect it instead? The same works for your house. If you have a dark roof, it will be soaking up all of the uv rays from the sun, and make your house generally a lot hotter than what it would be if it were light. So although it’s a little unique to go around painting your roof – it will make such a difference.

Cook hot food outside

It seems so obvious, and yet we grin and bear it to create nice meals for the family. But if you don’t fancy sweating away in the kitchen – don’t. Get yourself a barbecue and cook that way, you may need to change your technique a little, but it’s not a difficult thing to do, plus it may even end up being a healthier way to cook your food. Marinate your meat, slice up your veg, and throw it on the bbq. Pair that up with a fresh salad with the tomatoes that have been growing in your garden, and you will have a delicious dinner ready to devour.

Garden patio

If you haven’t got any sort of decking in your garden, it may be a good idea to build some in an area in the backyard. If you’re going to be throwing bbq parties this summer, then you won’t want all those footsteps ruining your lawn, because over time it will turn to soil if not looked after well enough. Deciding on a space and then having a bit of decking will not only stop this from happening, but it’ll look nice and give your family and friends somewhere to hang out on.

Get a ceiling fan

These can come in all different styles and designs, but they all have the same purpose, which is moving around the air that evaporates moisture from your skin – keeping you cool. Another benefit of ceiling fans is that they cool you down without cooling the entire room, so when you leave to go somewhere else, you just turn it off, meaning you’re being energy efficient.

Air Conditioning

If you haven’t already got air conditioning installed in your home – what are you waiting for? It will give you absolute instant relief from the heat, and create a cool flow of air through the room, perfect for the living room particularly as this is where you all hang out so needs the most attention.

There are many benefits to having air conditioner installed. Not only do they remove pollutants and possible mold in the air, but they also filter it too. Having said that, make sure that you get the right hvac repair otherwise your ac could actually be contributing to indoor air pollution if not looked after properly.

Plant vines

Vines not only add personality and quirkiness to the outside of your house, but they actually have many useful properties. In this case, they are a brilliant way to keep your house cool.

Vines like ivy grow very quickly and have an immediate effect because they shade the walls from the sun, and this can result in the temperatures dropping by fifty percent! Just make sure you do your research about the type of vine you decide to welcome onto the side of your house, as some can end up taking a negative toll by digging out the mortar in your walls.

Plant a tree

So this may sound a little extreme, but if your garden side of the house gets all the sun, then getting yourself a tree could really help block it out, so your home doesn’t get roasted every day. Plus trees are very attractive when planted correctly and placed in the right direction, so have a look at different trees that are available to buy within your price range, and imagine where you’d plant it. Japanese maple trees are absolutely stunning, and are just the right size to make a difference without being too overpowering.
