It will give you absolute instant relief from the heat, and create a cool flow of air through the room, perfect for the living room particularly as this is where you all hang out so needs the most attention.

So this may sound a little extreme, but if your garden side of the house gets all the sun, then getting yourself a tree could really help block it out, so your home doesn’t get roasted every day. Plus trees are very attractive when planted correctly and placed in the right direction, so have a look at different trees that are available to buy within your price range, and imagine where you’d plant it. Japanese maple trees are absolutely stunning, and are just the right size to make a difference without being too overpowering.
