A Shed in Your Back Garden: Functionality vs. Beauty

At times it is nice to get away and relax. It does not need to be far. It might even be at the bottom of your garden. If you have a waterproof shed it can even be in the middle of winter.  If you want to do more than relax, then it largely depends upon how much space you have.

More than storage

You probably built your shed to hold your gardening equipment and tools. The grass cutter and wheelbarrow probably took up the most space. With hooks and shelving, you probably didn’t need too much floor area. However, there are people who have seen their garden shed as a real project and decided that it can be everything from a study to a bar and even a cinema.

A cinema?

Who would have thought about a cinema in a shed? Well, more than one person certainly. One Leicestershire man, Art Zarby turned his shed into a cinema over 20 years ago. It has three rows of seating and seats 12 in all. He says it provides a unique atmosphere and is great for entertaining friends.

Have a party

Garry Wells-Larter of Thurmaston also in Leicestershire has actually made his shed into a great place for a party. He has installed a bar, a surround sound music system and TV with seating for a dozen. It doesn’t sound as though he gets much peace and quiet and time to relax in his shed.

Surprise your friends

It does pose the question as to whether you should look at your shed in a different light. It is nice to have a colourful garden with blooms in season and plenty of evergreens so there is some colour all year round. A lawn can be time-consuming. Not everyone gets pleasure from cutting the grass. A patio and BBQ provide you with the chance to spend time with family and friends during the summer.

Imagine your friends’ surprise if when the sun is going down you invite them into your garden shed for drinks and the TV.

It makes sense to make the best use of your property and that can include your shed. It has a function because you need to store your gardening things somewhere. Perhaps this has got you thinking about making it into something more? You may even decide that all those things will have to go into the garage instead because you have a better plan?
