Winterly Inspired: “Buta” Cushions
Do you like winter?
To be honest I am not the biggest fan as I can’t stand coldness, but sometimes I really miss those fabulous frosty winters we have in Russia, especially now when the Christmas is so close. Maybe it is this nostalgic mood I have or maybe a weird weather in Armenia (for me plus fifteen degrees in November is something really weird) but the primary inspiration for my new cushions which I designed for my boutique was winter.
I wanted to convey in the design the full beauty of this magic season with its hundred shades of white and gray, snow turning diamonds on the sun and the silver of frost:
I wanted to add also some oriental touch as in my boutique I sell items found in the countries along the ancient Silk Route. That’s why I have chosen paisley pattern as a primary design as it is one of the most famous and typical motifs in these countries. In Persian language (that’s where paisley is coming from it is called “boteh” or “buta”) and it is considered that it is a stylised image of a floral spray and cypress tree. There are many allegorical meanings of paisley, life and eternity to name a few. In zoroastrianism buta was standing for fire – chief symbol and element of this religion.
For my cushions I have chosen white linen, different size silver beads for embroidery and moonstone buttons for fastener.
The ornament was embroidered completely by hand (it took more than one week to complete it for one cushion). Finally, after two weeks of work I am so thrilled to present here our new “Buta” cushions now available for sale in my boutique:
