Essential Trend: Faux Taxidermy – No Animal Was Harmed…

Spread the love

One of the things I am lately obsessed with is faux taxidermy. No wonder, as animal trend is at its peak of popularity now and there are so many beautiful and attractive home decor objects on the market, which depict animals (sometimes in very extraordinary and quirky way). What I like most is that these pieces are eco-friendly and no animal was harmed to produce them. They can be made of resin, textile, wood, papier mache and other materials.

History

The custom to put hunting trophies on the walls appeared already in primitive society. From then many new techniques of taxidermy were created but this fashion was always there. Ancient Egyptians made taxidermied animals and put them in the tomb together with the person, who owned them. In the middle ages in Europe hunting trophies were used to decorate walls in the castles. Today, with an increased environmental consciousness of humanity, people don’t want to kill animals anymore just to fulfil their decorating needs, which resulted in the development of faux taxidermy.

Where to put?

Anywhere! When placing faux animal head on the wall or above the mantel piece you will create a wonderful focal point and instantly lift up the mood and make smile any person who enters the room. Faux trophies look great in the large spaces such as living and dining rooms, but you can also decorate with them bedrooms, hallways and kitchens. For kids room I recommend to find something colourful and joyful. If you place big animal head on a large empty wall, the impact would be even stronger. It is better to hang them above human height as it will make the room seem bigger. Usually trophies are placed above the sofas, beds and fireplaces.

I have picked below some of my most favourite faux animal heads which I want to share with you straight away.
