Double the blog traffic in one month – impossible?

Spread the love

Ok, ok, now if you tell me that it is possible, please share how you made it.

Last month full of determination to drastically increase statistics of visits to my blog I wrote this presuming post named “How to double the traffic to Interior Design blog in one month”. After reading so many articles on this topic (thanks to the Internet and huge amount of books available) I thought it would be so easy to get a traffic avalanche. It seemed that all what I need is loads of determination and following all tips from blogging “gurus”. In the result, after all my efforts and long hours of work, the statistics for the last month was totally the same as for the previous. What can I say – complete failure! But… in these cases I always say to myself:

So here is what I have learned during this month:

1) Promoting blog via Reddit. Yes, I was writing about fantastic amount of readers you can get from this website. The maximum I got so far was around 400 clicks per day. I started to share on it every new blog post that I published. The result: for several weeks my account was blocked (as per Reddit’s policy you can not self-promote). The amount of posts you can make is also limited by your “charisma”. In order to improve you charisma you should earn more votes from other people. If they vote you down, your charisma decreases. I believe that if you want to be successful with Reddit you need to spend there enormous amount of time: posting, commenting, voting. Another downside: out of all traffic I received from this platform I got zero subscribers: most of Reddit readers are one-time visitors.

2) Focusing on Google+. In fact Google + is really BIG right now. Though I didn’t receive huge amount of visitors from there, constant sharing my new blog posts on Google+ results in stable and regular traffic.

3) Increasing followers on Twitter didn’t result in significant growth of my blog statistics. The reason – mostly people use twitter to promote their own business, they are so concentrated on their own stuff that hardly read tweets from other people.

4) Creating my About.me page. The idea of this website is that you create a page with your biography and links to your website/blog/social media platforms. Then you search for people with the same interests and mark the pages you liked as “favorite”. Result: lots of new contacts, friends and followers. Since I just joined I didn’t get lots of readers from it yet, but I am planning to invest more time in it.  Another thing which you can do is to insert about.me link into your email signature, rather than putting huge amount of different social media icons. Here is how my about.me page looks like:

5) StumbleUpon and Digg. Is anybody using it now? Looking at the response I get from it I think both of them are dying.

Maybe you will find this post pessimistic, but it is not aimed to be. I just want to say that there are no easy ways with blogging. Of course it would be cool to publish one short article, spend a couple of minutes sharing it everywhere and wait for tons of visitors to come. The reality is that the best way to get more readers is to write more quality stuff. It will take long hours to write interesting and useful posts, but what you will notice at the end of the day is a continuous and stable growth of your blog’s popularity. Blogging is a hard work, growing it is even harder and the only advice I can give right now is:
