The Zodiac and Interior Design: Decorating for Scorpio
Do you believe in horoscopes? Well, that might be stupid, but I do. Of course, not in those silly forecasts published every week in women’s magazines, but in the fact that people born in the same month and year have something similar in their character, habits, attitude. I think it would be great if all this would be taken into consideration, when are homes are planed and designed. So I decided, that it would be a cool idea to explore each month the character of each Zodiac sign and to suggest several tips, on how to decorate their homes.
Since we are in November, I will start with Scorpio – perhaps, the most enigmatic and complicated sign in Astrology. I have known several Scorpios in my life – all of them had very strong personality, were quite sceptical and cynical, so sometimes it was even difficult to bear them (unless you like to feel yourself stupid or have certain masochistic tendencies). However they all had this immense mysterious power inside them, which made impossible to ignore or neglect these people.
Scorpios are very self-confident, they usually know very well what do they want and how to achieve it. This type of people are usually called “No nonsense”. The same thoroughness, solidity they expect to be found at their homes. Put carefree wallpaper with joyful flowers on the walls and numerous little cushions in frills on a sofa, and you will know firsthand how sharp is their sting. When decorating house for Scorpio give preference to masculine, decent look.
The entire house of a Scorpio should be united by one uniform style, it is essential to create a sense of flow and repetition between all spaces, which subconsciously is associated with depth and infinity. You should pick similar colours for walls, flooring and ceiling, use the same texture and finishes, choose corresponding accessories for all the rooms.
In terms of colour, choose the hues from light grey to black, inky blue, dark teal and dark purple (eggplant) and you can’t go wrong. Black and purple are considered to be the colours of Scorpios and are associated with the depth of the Universe.
Talking about lighting, Scorpios don’t like one single source like pendant light or chandelier. Instead, they prefer all kind of lamps, sconces and even candles, which cast deep shadows and give a room a touch of mystery. Scorpios also don’t like large panoramic windows, and if their house has one, they will try to drape it will large amount of fabric.
Plastic furniture or cheep and shaky pieces will spoil the mood of Scorpio. As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, they prefer solidity in everything. High-quality pieces made of natural wood and brown leather, heavy and durable upholstery, bookshelves and fireplaces are the things they would appreciate. Scorpios often are good collectors and sometimes like to put their collections on display. They also love all things antique and vintage, think of old table lamps, clocks, jewelry boxes and figurines to decorate their table and shelves.
Would love to hear an opinion of Scorpios – what do you like and hate in home decor? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
