Busy busy packing my suitcases as already next week we move from Armenia to Latvia. We’ve spent some amazing time here and I am really grateful for the warm hospitality of this wonderful country in the South of Caucasus that welcomed us with hot summer sun, delicious fruits and very friendly people. But, it’s time to go on!
We actually were a bit upset that we have to move a bit earlier than we planned and in fact we haven’t seen everything what we wanted. So this weekend we decided to make up leeway. Here are some snapshots from our two-day trip:
“Wings of Tatev ” is the longest aerial tramway in the world built in one section. It lyes over picturesque valley with fruit gardens, mineral springs and ancient monastery.Tatev monastry is a wonderful example of medieval Armenian architecture. Built on the top of the mountain it is only accessible with a cableway.The entrance of the cathedral is decorated with intricate stone carvings.Noravank monastery is one of the most impressive and beautiful architectural structures in Armenia. It is built in a narrow gorge made by mountainous river and surrounding red cliffs compliment it so well.The main church of the complex has two storeys, to get to the second floor you need to climb these incredibly narrow stairs with no railings! I didn’t have the guts to do that.Stone walls and wooden doors are usually decorated with complex baroque carvings.Khachkars are Armenian cross-stones, usually decorated with floral motifs, stars and rosettes.Entering inside the church…… and contemplating the magical light of candles.
Our Dolce seemed to have a wonderful time too. On the slope of Jermuk mountain (black puppy is her new admirer).
Despite our luggage is already enormously heavy I couldn’t resist buying those amazing things for my boutique, which will be available for sale as soon as we move:
My finds are proudly displayed at home.This antique lamp works on the paraffin oil. It looks exactly like Alladin’s lamp, so be careful when you rub it as Genie might come out.Antique tray for pakhlava is more than 150 years old. It is decorated with paisleys, flowers and another traditional Armenian motifs.mAntique copper jug is also more than 100 years old.This water jug actually comes from Iran. Totally love its oriental look.
Tomorrow heading over to Sochi to see the Olympics – very excited! Will keep you posted, have a great end of the week!
