Creating an Organized and Clutter-Free Living Room
Getting organized at home is something that is a lifelong pursuit. You can get one room sorted and in order, but within a few months it can become more of a mess again. That is why having some tips to help to keep the rooms organized in your home can make a big difference. In fact, it is all about your living room today. It is a room in the home that gets a lot of daily use by all members of the household, but it can easily become a bit of a dumping ground if you let it. The key to sorting it all out is being prepared so that when there are messes, it becomes much simpler to organize. So here are some tips to consider.
Have a one in and one out rule
Having a one in and one out rule can stop your home from getting overrun with clutter and junk, especially around birthdays and the holidays when there can be many more things coming into the home. For the living room, if you’re thinking of buying a new lamp or a new piece of artwork, then think about what you will be getting rid of (or moving elsewhere) so that the space doesn’t become cluttered and busy.
Use ceiling height for storage
There is one thing that is universal for all homes, and that is that there is never enough storage space! It is important to remember that having storage space doesn’t just have to be the floor or the walls as you would imagine. If you are short on space, then use the ceiling as storage space too. You can get shelving up there that can be pulled down, as well as using hooks for specific things like bikes or outdoor equipment. You could even think about getting some of Tylko’s bookcases and room dividers if there are some that are ceiling height, so that there is no wasted space on the walls. Get creative with your storage and it will make a big difference to the room.
Furniture that doubles up as something else
If you want to get organized and are lacking in storage space, then look into getting furniture that can double up into something else. For example, having a coffee table can be great. But it is better if it is a coffee table with drawers underneath, so that it can also be used for storage. A footstool can really step up your comfort in the living room. But having an Ottoman-style footstool can still mean you have something comfortable for your feet, but you have the added benefit of having extra storage too.
Go big with your sofa
Having a large sofa can be a good thing in the living room for a couple of reasons. First of all, it can mean plenty of space to sit and lots of comfort. But it also doubles up as a deterrent for clutter. You can’t accumulate too much clutter if there is no space for it in the room. If the main focal point of the living area is the sofa, then there won’t be much space for much else to gather.
