Aesthetics And Advantages Of Resilient Flooring: Real Project Example

When it comes to renovation, one of the major choices that homeowners make is the type of flooring. No wonder, because this is something that we don’t normally change every year and if not chosen carefully, it might bring lots of troubles. Repairs of the flooring are costly, effort and time consuming.

Price is another important factor, as hardwood flooring in despite its beautiful natural aesthetics can be very expensive, and not all homeowners may afford to place such floors all over the house. Also it requires a lot of care and maintenance in comparison to its synthetic alternatives. The varnish will wear out and fade over time: to restore its initial appearance wooden floors require repolishing.

That’s the reason why for my projects, I mostly opt for resilient flooring options, such as laminate or vinyl. These floors are really made for life: they are very easy to clean, you don’t need to worry about scratching or damaging them. They will last for many years without losing its original appearance. Basically everything you need for living well without worrying too much about your home maintenance.

Last but not least is the environmental concern – new generation resilient floors remove the need to harvest less-abundant natural resources by combining highly abundant natural ingredients (limestone, for example) with synthetic materials (like vinyl) to create long-lasting, highly durable, nature-inspired designs. Today it is all about mindful manufacturing and preserving natural resources for future generations. Visit BeautifullyResponsible.com to learn more.

Let’s have a look closer to the laminate choice. I want to show this real life example of the project that I recently made. This is a small studio apartment where I used laminate almost everywhere except bathroom (including kitchen and entryway). Here are advantages and reasons why you can use such flooring in these high traffic areas:

  • Entryways and kitchens need to be cleaned often, with laminate flooring you can do it fast and easy. Enough to just wipe them with a damp mop. You don’t need harsh and potentially hazardous chemicals to clean your floors.
  • New generations of laminate are not affected by temperature and humidity changes – unlike wooden floors, they won’t bend or crack during or after winter.
  • There is a huge variety of colors and styles of laminate floors and visually you can’t even distinguish them from natural wood.
  • Easy installation. Laminate floors are installed using floating method which refers to a system similar to a puzzle piece where the material locks together creating a tight bond. Such floors “floats” over subfloor and underlayment, you won’t need expensive glue or other material to attach it.
  • Such floors help to maintain a high level of indoor air quality, they are free of hazardous substances, such as formaldehyde.
  • Unlike wooden parquet, laminate floors are not afraid of shoes with high heels or sharp claws – it is an ideal option for families with pets.
  • Durability. Resilient floors is the best investment for your house, they will serve for decades without showing their age.

Here is how I used laminate floors in different areas throughout this studio apartment:

Laminate floors are great solution for entryways. They are easy to clean and resistant to high traffic flows.
To make sure the laminate floors are beautifully connected to other floor types, e.g. tiles or stone, purchase special transitions – you can also use them if you wish to change the direction of your floating floor.
Kitchen is another area, where laminate floor will be a great choice. Unlike other floor options including marble and wood, they don’t absorb colorful liquids, so you shouldn’t worry about stains from spilled wine, juices or food.
In the living room and bedrooms, laminate floors will recreate a warm sensation of natural wood and you can add some area rugs to define various zones.
Laminate floors are allergy free, which is essential for providing great air quality and a good night sleep.
