Tips to Make Your Living Room Look More Expensive and Elegant
Your entire home can be made a bit more luxurious with very simple changes. Whether you’re a minimalist or you love to be surrounded by lots of stuff, simple additions can create a lovely oasis of comfort for you and your family.
Create a Spot to Relax
Create a reading nook, a meditation spot, or a spot to cuddle with a child. You need a comfy chair, a good reading lamp and a luxurious throw. If you love to put your feet up, consider an ottoman.
Create a Spot to Connect
Create small spots for intimate conversations and quiet connections. One of the most elegant factors of any space is a lack of unnecessary noise. Make sure that you can play some quiet music, enjoy a snack plate and a beverage, and have a conversation. Using small round rugs to create conversation spots can make a cramped space feel intimate and make a big room feel friendly.
Watch Your Focal Points
If at all possible, don’t put your television in your living room. A television is a wonderful tool for information and entertainment, but it can quickly turn into a focal point. There’s no more pedestrian home layout than having all the chairs pointed at one screen.
Instead, make one room an entertainment room, or keep your television covered until everyone is ready to watch a show together. Allowing everyone in the house their own screen can greatly reduce the noise of a home in which the television is always on and always producing sounds that may or may not be listened to.
Make a space to look out a window, watch a fireplace or study the habits of birds in your bird feeder. Break up with the constant running noise produced by a television and play some quiet music or use an app that will carry the sound of nature through your home.
Put Texture to Work
Update an ordinary piece of furniture with texture. A pretty throw in a bright color or a rich texture will draw the eye and encourage a bit of relaxation. Don’t fold throws, instead, drape them across your furniture. If you want cushions, look for woven, knitted, or other highly textured materials for your cushions.
Create Reflection
Use mirrors to bounce light around the space. If you have a side table for a lamp, consider adding a fabric cover to draw the eye from table cover to pretty throw to fresh flowers on the dining room table. Once you’ve chose your fabric cover, put down a piece of glass or a frameless mirror to increase reflection. These glass or mirror covers can be large enough to serve as a coaster if you prefer.
Finally, make sure that your home is easy to clean. If you have pets, consider investing in a robot vacuum to keep things cleaned up while you’re asleep or away from the house. If you have carpet, you may need to vacuum every day. Be ready to keep your investments clean and to keep reflective surfaces free of dust.
