Bigger & Brighter

Windows and doors have become much bigger. The idea is to bring the outside inside, even on the not-so-nice days. You can do this by knocking out wall space and enhancing the size of your windows. You will need professional help to ensure it won’t affect the structural integrity of your house. But, it will be worth it.

Curves

As well as going bigger, the latest trend is to add curves to the tops of the windows. This creates a softer look that feels more comfortable and homely. It doesn’t change the level of light bt it does look good.

Functionality

The most important aspect of any door is that it is useable. This means thinking about what you want the door to do, that’s more than just opening and closing. If you have elderly relations you’ll want a door with no sill.  Equally, if you’re after an impressive house the door can make this happen, or you can create a more discreet entrance. The choice is yours.

Wood Frames

For years UPVC vinyl has been the material of choice, simply because it is clean and easy to maintain. But, wood frames are now making a comeback, coupled with top-end double glazing units. This gives you the same level of insulation and the warmth of wood in your home.

The great thing about wood is there is virtually no limit to the shades you can use.

Thin Borders

This is actually a little bit of a throwback to older style windows and doors. It is now very popular to have virtually all glass with a barely-there frame. Of course, these versions of these doors are far more efficient than the original items.

Dark Colors

As well as a trend toward wood frames, many people are choosing to have dark-colored frames, specifically black. Where this would have darkened the house it is no longer an issue, especially if you couple it with thin borders.

The result is a minimalist door and window which encourages light, warmth, modern convenience, and still has a touch of the old-fashioned.

Rest & Recover

Bringing the outside inside has become incredibly popular and this has led to an increase in windows in bathrooms and even doors, that lead to extra relaxation areas.

By placing a hot tub outside and shielding it with glass, you can access it from a bathroom and make it feel like it’s all one space.

Of course, the bottom line is that whichever doors and windows you pick must work for you; that should be your starting point when choosing new doors and windows.

Energy Efficiency

Perhaps one of the biggest trends of 2019 and one that is certain to continue is energy efficiency. This doesn’t necessarily affect the look of the windows and doors but it does affect your energy bill and your impact on the environment.

Of course, tinted glass can help to reduce the heat in your house, this is a useful addition if you have long hot summers.

Put simply, you want your new windows and doors to be energy efficient, made with recycled materials, and still to look good.
