DIY Project: Ombre Dip Dyed Curtains
In order to make something unique and creative for your interior, you don’t have to have a massive budget. I made these beautiful window treatment for one home staging project using simple white IKEA Ritva curtains and liquid fabric dye. The overall price for this project was like $30 and it took me around 30 minutes to complete it.
I wanted to pair the curtains with blue feature wall, so I tried to pick a very similar hue. When you repeat colours in the interior design you create a feeling of continuity and flow: the space looks complete.
If you are curious here is how the room looked before:
Here is the list of materials that you will need
- white cotton or linen curtains
- fabric dye in your chosen colour
- plastic film to protect the floor
- paint brush (I recommend to pick a stiff one)
Steps to make ombre curtains
- First of all, you need to thoroughly protect all the surfaces with plastic film. Dying fabric is quite messy so you need to make sure that furniture and floor is meticulously covered. Make sure you wear gloves, otherwise, fabric dye will colour your skin as well.
- Spread the bottom of the curtains, make sure there are no folds or wrinkles. Make the fabric slightly damp (I used the spray bottle for this purpose). This will create a beautiful blurry effect and the colour border will be very subtle.
- Start to apply the fabric dye from the bottom of the curtain using the brush. Move the brush up the curtain until the dye gradually disappears.
- Let it air dry overnight.
Here is the finished result:
Notice how I put a painting on the wall that complements the Ombre dip dyed curtains and the furniture? Instead of buying a painting, create a piece of art with your own two hands. There’s a new art trend called acrylic pouring and you can learn how to do it through this page.
