How to Maintain Your Artificial Lawn During All Seasons

With the weather getting warmer and summer on the way, there’s no better time to get outside and enjoy your artificial lawn.  However, it’s important to remember that just like real grass, an artificial lawn does need some maintenance of its own.  In this article, I am going to explain how to maintain your artificial lawn during all seasons.

Spring

Spring is the time when most gardeners and homeowners begin to plant new bulbs and plants and focus on their landscaping.  When this is done around the lawn, it’s likely that some of the rocks and dirt will end up on your turf.  This can easily be hosed off and brushed away.  Spring is also the time to use a non-toxic weed killer to kill any weeds in your lawn.  According to the artificial grass experts at Aaron’s Landscaping, this isn’t likely to be a problem for all turf owners, but artificial grass that doesn’t have a permeable backing is susceptible to weeds.

Summer

When the hot weather hits, most people want to head outside and enjoy their lawns.  The kids and pets play outdoors, while many families host barbecues for their neighbors.  With all this additional foot traffic, your artificial lawn will need some extra care.  You can clean most things with a brush and a hose, however, for pet stains, you may want to use a mixture of vinegar and water.  This helps to kill odors and germs, it’s non-toxic, and it’s effective at removing stubborn stains.

Autumn

Although artificial lawn owners don’t have to worry about the hassle of mowing their lawns during the summer when the leaves start to fall they have to pull out the rake just like everyone else.  Thankfully, raking leaves is a lot easier to do on artificial grass than it is on a regular lawn, and you could even use a leaf blower if you want to make the job even easier.  Homeowners who don’t have a lot of trees in their garden may even be able to just use a dustpan and brush!

Winter

Depending on where you live, winter can bring with it snow, frost, and rain.  Water is a friend to artificial grass, however, snow and frost can cause a problem if you don’t remove it correctly.  Where possible, it’s advisable to leave snow and ice to melt on its own. If you have to remove it, try and use a lightweight shovel or a snow blower and avoid taking off the surface layer.  If you don’t do this correctly you could cause permanent damage to your lawn.

Taking care of an artificial lawn is a lot easier than maintaining a regular lawn. However, there are certain things you need to be aware of in order to avoid irreparably damaging it.  Keep the above advice in mind and you will find that your lawn lasts for many years to come.
