DIY Project: New Look For Midcentury Modern Chairs
Hello my friends!
Last week we did this wonderful project with my friend. She has renovated her apartment recently and now slowly started to furnish.
I have found this beautiful midcentury modern chair literally on the street. Somebody just threw it away. It was in a pretty good condition, so we decided to take it and give it a new look.
These couple of chairs were found in the former hotel Rossiya – the building was demolished and all the furniture was also thrown away. So we’ve got three stunning vintage pieces, all we needed to do is to find a beautiful fabric and reupholster it.
Reupholstering old chairs like this is not that difficult as it might seem at first sight.
The first thing is you need to do is to disassemble them and accurately remove the fabric so that you can use them as patterns.
Using this patterns we cut out new covers from material that we bought. Before sewing it we tried them on cushions to make sure they fit.
We also bought some foam rubber for the red chair. We attached it to the frame using the super glue.
The back of the red chair had this plywood part covered with fabric. After cleaning it we attached the new fabric using the fabric glue.
In the meantime we attached fabric around the cushions using the furniture stapler.
The cover at the back was reattached with furniture nails.
With other two chairs it was easier as covers were attached to the frame only with staples.
When the cushions were ready we attached them to the base using the furniture bolts. Our beautiful chairs were finally ready. My opinion they look pretty cool, what do you think?
