Cozy Beach House In Southhold, NY
In today’s post we want to share another project accomplished by Re: Design Architects – this time a beautiful beach house in Southold, NY (their previous project, family house in Brooklyn you can check in this article).
This renovation of the Laughing Waters Beach House in Southold, NY includes a rework of the master bedroom, bathroom, and laundry room, as well as modernization of the guest bathroom. The focal point of the home is the new fireplace and shelving with log storage installed during the renovation. This home was a true collaboration between architect/interior designer and the very talented owner. Each aspect of this home feels modern and airy, and has coastal touches at every turn.
Re: Design worked with the owners to develop the new shelving system to suit their needs. Rebuck included a travertine seat at the bottom so the owners could sit close to the fire during the winter. Walnut wood shelving was installed above the travertine to house the owners’ book collection and artwork. Rebuck created a space for firewood to allow easy access to the new white Malm Mid-Century Modern Zircon fireplace.
Rebuck installed shiplap walls in the area surrounding the fireplace. Despite its overuse in recent style trends, she was able to tastefully incorporate the design element in a way that feels fitting for the coastal home. Custom built cane doors were also installed in the living room and bedroom.
As you pass the fireplace on your way into the Master Bedroom, you are greeted with stunning artwork and pops of color. The space feels modern, yet comfortable thanks to the various textures and tones of the rug, velvet bench, leather headboard, wood side table, rattan chair, and sconces.
Re: Design Architects expanded the small ensuite bathroom and added a laundry room, while managing to maintain the expansive feel of the Master Bedroom. Beautiful Cuban hexagonal cement tile floors from Grow House Grow were installed in the bathroom. The tile is hand crafted with natural materials and is a timeless addition to the space. Keeping with the coastal theme, a sconce that is reminiscent of a boat adorns the wall. Adjacent to the sink is a recessed niche with live edge shelving, designed to keep the bathroom organized and tidy. The herringbone patterned shower floor and walls complement the tile and create a relaxing space. Rebuck cleverly installed the shower control valve opposite to the shower head to ensure one remains dry while turning the shower on. The fluted glass shower wall obscures the brass shower head beyond giving the space an ephemeral quality. The balance of textures in the Master Bathroom results in a spa-like, calming space.
The owner installed the wallpaper in the hallway/dining area from Cavern which ties into the history of the community. More shiplap was installed in the guest bathroom to reinforce the nautical theme. Beautiful Lightmaker Studio sconces were put in next to the simple but elegant wood framed mirror. The pink glow of the scones gives off an unexpected warmth in the bathroom. Another live edge shelf sits above the toilet beautifully decorated with found objects from the beach.
