Botanical Bathroom Ideas For Your Home
Botanicals are huge right now and have been for a little while. We love it when a design has longevity like this as it gives us more time to enjoy and make the most of it.
That’s what’s happening with botanicals.
Botanicals have been popular for a couple of years now and show no signs of going anywhere soon.
That’s great news for everyone as there are more options than ever to decorate your home using this calming, engaging scheme.
One room that genuinely benefits from botanicals is the bathroom. You can easily level up the smallest room in your home with some well-chosen pieces and innovative ideas.
Ideas we’re going to show you below.
Ideas for botanical bathrooms
Here are a few ideas you can use when creating a botanical bathroom. Use them, adapt them or use them as inspiration for something completely different!
Bring in the green
Botanical comes from botany, which is the study of plants. That makes green a logical choice for primary colour.
How you introduce that green is up to you.
Some ideas include green metro tiles, green woodwork, green murals or wallpaper, green paintings within an ornate frame, green bathroom accessories or something completely different.
The idea is to make a statement with the green but not overwhelm the space.
Botanical design is about statement areas with contrasting plain or light areas to maintain balance and a semblance of calm.
Contrast with copper
Copper goes so well with green it would almost be a crime not to use it. Copper itself turns green when exposed to moisture so it’s a partnership that really works.
Consider a copper splashback for sinks, copper wall art, exposed copper pipes, Victorian style copper fixtures, or copper accessories throughout the bathroom.
Less is usually more with contrasts, so choose your pieces carefully.
For example, copper taps with exposed pipes for sinks and a copper shower head with exposed pipe or, a copper splashback for the sinks along with a copper toilet roll holder or light fitting.
Include plants or plant prints
A botanical design for any bathroom would not be complete without plants or plant prints.
We would suggest using both if the space allows it as the combination can add depth and texture as well as colour.
A mixture of indoor plants with a selection of leaf colours with a plant print on the wall, plant print curtains or shower curtain would work wonders.
You can experiment a lot with plants. A mixture of tall thin plants works well in smaller spaces. Climbing plants can work for awkward corners and hanging plants can work around shower stalls or over the bath.
Just make sure the plants you choose can handle damp environments and can be controlled. Otherwise, you could be spending far too much time pruning!
Don’t forget the white
You don’t have to feature white with botanicals but it can work amazingly well in botanical bathrooms.
We equate white with cleanliness so it should ideally feature in your bathroom somewhere.
White bathroom suites are timeless and work incredibly well. White tiles keep a space light and airy and are very easy to clean. White floors also liven up a space and make the lower part of the room seem larger.
You could paint walls white and have a botanical wallpaper on one wall, frame botanical wallpaper for decoration or something completely different.
Just be aware of where you hang pictures or wallpaper so they aren’t damaged by moisture.
Wood works wonders
Depending on the scheme you’re working to, introducing wood into a botanical bathroom can be amazing.
Wood and plants go together in nature so can work in a bathroom too.
You could go all out with wooden floors, take it tropical with bamboo or rattan, use wooden furniture or plinth for a sink, use wooden blinds, parquet flooring or anything you like.
Wood won’t work in all schemes, but can be amazing if you can find the space.
Wood adds texture, colour, depth and interest. Work with reclaimed furniture or upcycle something and you multiply the benefits of wood many times over!
Natural fibres
Another idea for a botanical bathroom is to add some natural fibre. It works in the same way as wood, to add complementary interest, colour and texture.
Think hemp mats, sackcloth curtains or natural coloured towels. Think a rattan chair in the corner with a hessian cushion, natural bath mat or something else entirely.
You don’t have to go overboard with extra textures, but done right, they can add the ideal finishing touch to an emerging bathroom design.
The combination of plants, plant prints, some wood, contrasting colours with copper and some natural fibres and you’re layering up the goodness.
All different colours and textures combine to deliver a sumptuous bathroom that can amaze without emptying your bank account.
That’s just one of the many reasons we love the botanical movement and why we can thoroughly recommend a botanical bathroom!
