How to Add a Warm Touch to Any Space Using Personalized Prints
Last year we bought a cute apartment in Calahonda, near Marbella in Spain. It is located just few steps from the beach and has amazing sea views. The only downside was that the interior looked quite dated and the dimensions of the rooms were very modest.
The living room had a really awkward shape and looking into our possibilities we made a decision to extend it using the space from the balcony. Here is how the living room looked like before:
And here is the part of the balcony that we wanted to join:In the extended space I wanted to create a relaxing corner with a big day bed – a place where you can read a book or have a cup of coffee enjoying magnificent sea views.
Here was my inspiration:
Like on this photo I wanted to make an elevated wooden podium for the bed and make windows as big as possible.
We started the makeover by breaking the walls. There were no load bearing columns so it was legal to do that:
We replaced all windows and did the plastering and painting job. Now was the time to build the podium. I will definitely make a separate post about it. Here you can see the structure of it:
When construction and carpentry job was done it was time for my favorite part – decorating!
I wanted the space to look minimalist and tranquil with a touch of rustic coastal style. I choose relaxing beige and green color palette with some warm wooden accents:
When I was thinking about wall decor, I thought it will be nice to add something related to Marbella and also that would look contemporary. I started to look for personalized prints and found this one:
It is a moon phase poster, which you can customize for any location: just choose the place and date and the website will show how the moon looked like on this exact day. I choose March 28 because it was a meaningful date for us. Also you can change the description, writing any phrase that motivates you.
I really liked how this poster looked like on that wall and how it matched the rest of the decor:
What do you think about this makeover? Looking forward to your comments!
