DIY Project: Golden Sea Urchins Table Decor
If you are into home decorating and styling, you know that little details make a big difference, and can totally change the feel and look of the house. You also probably know how difficult it can be to found original decoration pieces, that you will not stumble upon in hundred magazines and Pinterest boards. That’s why I always have been a huge fan of DIY projects – with a bit of creativity and dedication, you can create something unique and original, that only your home will have.
I also love nature, long walks on the beach and in the forest. I like to look around in search of objects that I can repurpose and use as decoration of my home.
During my recent walk on the beach, I found a lot of urchins on the shore thrown away from the sea by the storm the day before.
I collected around 7-8 of them and decided to do some decorative objects out of them – their shape and texture are so beautiful and intricate that you can only be amazed by designing skills of mother nature.
Some of the sea urchins still had some spines so I had to get rid of them. In order to do that I left them for a couple of days on the sunshine, then thoroughly cleaned with soap and hard brush:
Left them outside to completely dry on both sides:
Then I painted them with golden spray metallic paint. I needed to do it with several layers, ensuring that the previous one is completely dry.
That’s it! So easy to do, and as a result I’ve got these little stylish objects that I can use as a beautiful table centerpiece:
They are great a setting for the product photography, and I used them to get some cool shots of my jewelry shop:
