Tropical Garden Getaways In Lanzarote

Spread the love

Lanzarote is located around 80km off the coast of North West Africa and has long been a hot favourite with international tourists.  One of seven Spanish owned Canary Islands, Lanzarote welcomed over 3 million visitors during 2019 alone – thanks to a clement year-round climate and temperatures that rarely fall below 20 degrees Celsius, even during the depths of winter.

Unspoiled Island

Yet despite its popularity and relatively small size (you can drive end to end in around an hour) the island remains largely unspoiled outside of the three main tourist resorts.

There are no high rise hotels or ad hoardings blighting the landscape and white washed villages are sprinkled like sugar cubes across the surreal, multi-hued volcanic terrain that comprises around one third of Lanzarote’s landmass – the legacy of massive volcanic eruptions during the 1730’s.

Unlike some other Spanish sunspots development here has been carefully controlled, thanks largely to the efforts of a visionary local artist and architect called Cesar Manrique

This proto ecologist campaigned for restraint during the 1970’s as package tourism started to take off – fuelled by President Franco’s desire to attract much needed foreign currency to his faltering Spanish economy.

Finca Botanico – Rural Retreat

As a result of this more enlightened approach the island has managed to retain much of its authentic personality and charm intact.  Attracting hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers who are seeking to connect with the real Lanzarote, sparking a substantial rural tourism sector.

Finca Botanico is located in the tranquil little village of Guatiza, providing high quality rural holiday accommodation in Lanzarote for garden lovers looking to connect with nature and the beautiful surrounding countryside.

The Finca is just a short stroll away from the island’s sole botanical attraction The Cactus Garden.  Which was carved out of an old disused quarry by the ubiquitous Manrique, in conjunction with an eminent plantsman called Estanislav Ferrer.

Recently renovated, this 300-year-old former farmhouse offers complete privacy along with plant packed tropical gardens.  Which feature lots of different chill out areas and zones, in both the sun and the shade, allowing guests to experience outdoor living all year round.
