We regularly write about the latest interior trends here, but maybe you prefer a timeless interior. Not everyone wants to redesign their interior every year. Moreover, it all costs a lot of money. A timeless interior, on the other hand, lasts a lifetime. It’s the perfect foundation, and it won’t go out of style. Needless to say that most of us want to find house decoration ideas on a budget, so any of the below can easily be adapted to that concept. Redecorating doesn’t always mean spending a lot of money, but rather being savvy with style. Learning to know what looks good is always important.

Timeless interior: Opt for neutral colors.

If you want a reasonable, timeless basis for your interior, choose neutral colors. And by neutral, we don’t mean that you have to paint everything white. An ocher yellow wall or a colored sofa may seem very nice at the moment, but such bold colors are trend-sensitive, and the chances are that you will be tired of these colors again next year. Moreover, the rest of your interior must also match these colors well, much more comfortable with neutral tones. This will bode well for new buyers if you are thinking of selling

Add trendy tones with accessories.

As we said above, in a timeless interior, it is best to opt for calm colors. But suppose you would still like to add a specific distinct color to your interior, you can do this with accessories. You can change accessories much more accessible, for example, photo frames, decorative cushions, and throws. Once you’re done with them, keep them in an attic storage box. Suppose you want to bring them back into your interior later, then it’s possible. Either way, it is less effort than having to repaint the walls or buy new furniture every time. We have seen the color trend as one of the most prominent trends this year. Walls, sofas, cushions, and many window decorations also look great in yellow ocher and deep orange colors. One of the most trendy curtains at the moment is an ocher yellow, blackout curtain. Accessories will always add charm to any room and are among the most important decisions to make.

Invest in essential furniture.

You probably know the saying ‘cheap is expensive,’ and that also applies to a timeless interior. Bargains and budget furniture may be tempting, but the quality is also important. Especially if you want to use it for years, it is better to spend a little more money. Important furniture pieces include a sofa, a dining table with dining chairs, a wardrobe, and a double bed.

If you choose a cheap copy, there is a chance that you will regret your purchase later because the quality is not optimal. It is better to save a little longer for furniture that you are genuinely happy with. Timeless furniture can last until the next generation and beyond, and it’s undoubtedly going to remain a top favourite with designers for many generations to come to.

Choose sustainable.

You choose sustainability by looking at the furniture and materials that last a long time and at its function. Would you like a lot of light in your home? Do not cover the windows with dark curtains. Are you a bad sleeper? If so, then it is a good idea to invest in blackout curtains. Instead, make sustainable purchases that will be cost-effective. This concept does apply to all furniture and accessories in the house.

Keep it personal.

A timeless interior does not mean that everything has to be sleek, clean, and bland. It doesn’t have to be an interior from a book, because it remains your home. Therefore, finish your interior with personal items that suit you. It can be things that you have been in love with for a while or that you attach great emotional value to. Consider, for example, the cupboard your grandfather gave you or that rustic chair from your great aunt’s home. These items certainly deserve a place in your interior because they represent you and tell a story that nobody else can tell. The chances are that you will regret this if you don’t use them somehow (unless they have bad meaning) because they really will enhance the character of your home.

Sustainability.

We can no longer ignore it. Sustainability is also a trend that you will see a lot in interiors in 2021. This is mainly reflected in timeless furniture, which is also ‘trend-proof’. Giving new life to your old furniture is also sustainable. Give that old cupboard that has been in the attic for years a lick of paint. It must look new again. Sustainable use of energy is also becoming increasingly important. Keep your house nice and cool in the summer and nice and warm in the winter with curtains. Curtains with a thicker fabric, such as blackout curtains and velour curtains, are already a good move to be aware of nature and save on your energy bill. A win-win situation! Pleated blinds, also called double blinds, have a honeycomb structure that creates a static air layer. This keeps the heat in and the cold out in winter. In the summer, of course, the other way around.

Contrast with textures: black and white.

No more excellent contrast than black and white and no greater present than this ‘Colors’ * in your home. Because yes, you can do many things with it. Black and white can be perfectly combined with wooden furniture. Give your modern or traditional home a real cool look or create spaciousness and depth. A preference is for white walls combined with black furniture, but feel free to mix as you wish. White cabinets with a dark kitchen worktop, a dark kitchen against a white wall, or black bar stools on a white kitchen island look gorgeous. Add some cosiness to this with the help of candles, plants, flowers, soft fabrics, or natural materials, and bam, your interior is ready to go!

The Art of Imperfection or Wabi-Sabi.

After matcha and sushi, another trend is now also blowing over from Japan: Wabi Sabi – not confused with wasabi. Wabi-Sabi stands for imperfection and basic styles in your home – a perfect interior trend for the new year. We have been taken up by Japanese styles for many years and a lot of the trends we see today derive from Japan. We have adapted them with western concepts, but after all, it is within Asia where a lot of the new trends are borne. Such as the modern concept of simplicity – a concept that ties in with Buddhism.

Wabi-Sabi is pure, sustainable, and fair. The beauty is’ M in the imperfection. Think of furniture from second-hand shops, concrete constructions, or raw natural elements such as walnut wood and marble with many grains. A tangle? That’s okay! Just do what you feel like doing. Contrast can also be conveyed differently, namely with structure. Combine smooth materials with rougher and more natural elements. Think of stone in combination with wooden slats or textiles.

Fortunately, sustainability and design are increasingly encountering each other in the interior world. Ikea made bamboo the trend this year, but in 2021 we see rattan, wood, and stone return as a trend. And these materials have never left. In addition to being durable, they are also fantastic and robust. Your home can certainly look beautiful, even on a budget, and this is certainly something that you can implement piece by piece as we enter a new phase of design. 2021 will undoubtedly shake things up, and it’s time to start designing now.
