Some Important Things to Consider When Decorating Your New Home in Uganda
Purchasing a new home is an exciting time, especially when you are relocating to a brand new country, such as Uganda. You get to start with a completely clean slate and design a home that suits you and your personal style. You’ve already been through a lot, from searching for properties, getting a mortgage, making an offer, and doing lots and lots of paperwork. The decorating stage is supposed to be the fun part, but there are some things you need to consider before drawing up design plans and buying new furniture.
Don’t take everything with you
One of the best parts about moving is the chance to declutter. Once you’ve found your dream home on Uganda Property Centre, you’ll have to start deciding what you’re going to keep and what you’re going to take. As you spend years in a house, you’ll begin to accumulate a lot more stuff than you realize. When you start packing your stuff, consider what you actually use and what you can probably leave behind. Trying to cram everything you have into your new place will instantly make it feel cluttered and chaotic. Plus, you won’t have any space to bring in new pieces.
Don’t assume your furniture will fit
Your furniture might fit in your current home, but don’t assume that everything will fit in your new space. While the items need to fit physically, they also need to work decoratively. Make sure to measure out your furniture and compare it to your new home’s floorplans to make sure your items will physically fit. Additionally, the style and color must also be compatible with your new home.
Consider the weight of furniture
Back in the day, the heavier the piece of furniture, the better quality it was. Now you can get attractive and durable furniture pieces that don’t have to weigh a ton. Heavy furniture can make moving a nightmare, and also rearranging, which is especially true if you are moving across countries. Carrying things up and down the stairs is already hard enough. Don’t make it harder on yourself by considering the weight when you make new furniture purchases. It also makes it easier to clean and move around to try out different configurations.
- Don’t put off painting
When moving into your new home, it can be tempting to put off your painting. You want to get everything in there and plan to paint it at a later date. The reality is that once you’ve moved everything in, you will find every excuse not to paint and it will never get done. Additionally, if you do paint, you might end up getting paint on new furniture or décor. Do the painting first to ensure that you have the motivation to get it done and don’t end up putting it off indefinitely.
- Keep your main furniture pieces neutral
Bringing your personal style into your new home is one of the best parts of moving into a new place. That said, your main furniture pieces should be neutral. Elements like your couch, dining table and bed frame will be much more versatile if they are an earthy or neutral tone. You can add pops of color with accent pieces likes cushions, tablecloths, and throws. That way, you can change the look of your home as much as you want without having to invest in entirely new furniture.
