Axe Majeur : Visit Cergy Most Impressive Monument
Situated only a few kilometers from Paris, and accessible by car, train and metro, “Axe Majeur”, Axe of the Metropolis in English, it’s one of the most impressive monuments to see around.
Created by the Israeli sculptor Dani Karavan on the early 80s, it wasn’t completely finished until late 2000s.
Composed by several stations, a long walk and stairs will bring you to a long bridge of 251 meters (823 Foots) that ends on a small island called “The Astronomic Island”.
The Paris Esplanade
Crowned by the Belvédère Tower, where we can find even a laser pointing towars the island on the other side of the monument, the Paris Esplanade it’s a big open space decorated with twelve twelve-meter high columns.
This particular columns were founded with the money raised by local companies to help the construction.
Some stations we find surrounding the main monument, as the gardens, are not completely as imagined by Karavan, and they miss the symbolism he had in mind.
From up here, you can admire the bridge, the island and a 20 meters (65 foot) pyramid on the side.
The Footbridge of Axe of The Metropolis
The most interesting part of the visit it’s, without any doubt the long red bridge, only accessible by foot, that lead to a perfectly round shaped island of 120 meters (393 foot).
Our walk can continue across the lake, that can be surrounded using small roads, only accessible by foot or bike.
As we can see on the photos, during Covid-19 lockdown, the bridge was closed for renewal works to keep it shiny red.
