10 Things To Do For Your Interior Design Business Under Quarantine
Most of us are going through very difficult times right now. It’s been over one month that several countries announced lock down, the whole factories have stopped working and the world economy is going through recession. Apart from preoccupations about health, many of us are wondering how actually we will be able to maintain our jobs or businesses through this pandemic. In today’s post I want to share some ideas, which you can do for your interior design business under quarantine. Let’s handle this time as a moment to reflect on what has been done in the past, plan our strategy for the future and eventually do things for our business that we never had time to.
1.Put in order your website
- Write SEO friendly descriptions of your projects
- Update your CMS if necessary
- Add alt atributes and description to all photos
- Check if your website is fast enough, and if necessary, improve its loading time
2. Start a Blog
If you haven’t done it yet I strongly recommend you to start a blog page on your website. This is a great opportunity to push your website up in Google, by constantly adding fresh content that search engines love. Here are some ideas you can blog about:
- News about your company
- New projects you are working on
- Publications in website and magazines, awards
- Industry news – trade fairs and exhibitions, current trends, new products
- Behind the scenes – tell your readers how you work on the projects, describe your design process.
3. Submit your website to different directories
This will improve visibility of your company and chances to be found by potential clients. Here are some directories that you should consider: Houzz, Google business, Bing Business, Yellow Pages. Also research some local business directories and get listed there as well.
4. Submit your past projects for publications
If you have got some completed projects which were professionally photographed you can get featured in interior design magazines and blogs.
5. Participate in design competitions
Apart from publications in blogs and magazines you can also participate with your projects in design competitions. This is a great chance to get extra visibility and recognition of your work.
6. Email marketing
Email marketing is a wonderful way to remind about yourself to your previous clients and also get new ones. You can include in your newsletters special offers, discounts, news about your company. Don’t forget to mention in a newsletter if/how your company is working during quarantine.
The platform I recommend to use for email marketing is called Mailchimp. It is very easy to use, they have great templates and it is free.
7. Create branded materials
Think about revising your printed materials – business cards, flyers, pens, envelops, etc. I ordered printed portfolio book where I included my best projects. I used platform called Blurb, which I recommend but there are many others. I think this is a great way to present your work to the clients, and I usually take this book with me to my first client meeting.
8. Grow your Instagram
I dedicate at least half an hour every day to grow my social media – posting new content, following new people in my niche, writing thoughtful comments and engaging with my followers. I also dedicated a certain amount of my marketing budget on promoting posts on Instagram. Although it might not show instant result, but it helps me to get 3-4 projects per year, which completely justifies the amount I spend on ads.
9. TikTok
This platform is getting more and more popular and not only among the teenagers, but business owners as well. You can make there short entertaining videos about your projects, behind the scenes process, home tours.
10. Youtube
You can start your own youtube channels with the video ideas I mentioned above. Being present on youtube is amazing for the SEO of your website: don’t forget to mention your website link in the description of the videos, and also embed videos on the pages of your website, like I did here:
